What do you do to get rid of the little ledge(for lack of better description)that is left when you paint up against a taped off area?

A lot of wet sanding with very fine sand paper. I used 400 grit very lightly, then 1000 and 2000 grit. Keep surface wet. It takes a while so be patient.
