Hi guys. I’m really close to start ripping the surface rust off my panels. I’m finding some areas take awhile to get down to bare steel. Do I have to get to complete bare steel or can I treat with a chemical? Pic is what I’m dealing with. The top of the rails got ripped down to steel using 36 grit the. Coated with self etch.

Well forgot I bought a box of these. They make quick work of the surface rust. I need to stock up on rust neutralizer. Lots of little pits.

In the middle of doing the same thing! I used an 80 grit with a DA and I wire brush when necessary. Got it down to bare and worked very well. Primed it with self etcher so it doesn’t rust back up while I’m waiting to get back out and finish it up. The rear quarters looked like the front does. It took some time but you’re better off getting it all off.

A before pic. You can see the amount of filler I had to cut through too.
