i was diggin thru the glove box today, and started actually reading that little paper that says like...options...color paint...gears...etc. i noticed that it says "locking differential"? does that mean rear has a locker? my friends says limited slip ....so...?? hmm.
i know it says i got the 3:42 gears :( i thought they at least put 3:73 in the 4x4's ..oh well. i trying to load a vid..i did the rear bearings today...not too bad a job.
thnx dudes

Limited slip code next to it should say G80 which is a GOV-LOK

Also they put 3.08 and 2.73 gears in 4x4's gotta love the 80's

it'd be tough to tell the difference on loose ground. Limited slips are a version of locker but use springs and clutches that can slip a little. where as a real locker uses a tooth type mechanical connection to LOCK the rear when needed. A lot of people confuse the words limited slip with an open differential for some reason.

I've seen GM refer to the Gov-loc as a locker.
They should have refereed it as a time bomb.

As for your thinking that 4x4 should come 3.73s. I know 3.08 came in a lot of 4x4s. That was the standard gear for the 70s with a sbc.

Yep GM calls the gov bomb a locking differential option

Which in all reality as long as you spin the tires fast enough and the diff doesn't come apart it holds pretty good

Hmm my 1984 had 3:73 and the 1987 has 3:08 not sure what is in the 1993.
