What up

I'm finalizing everything that I will need to have at my disposal when I do the axle swap and 6" lift on the 'Burb at the same time here in about a month and I need you guys' help to offer up any advice on a tool or part I may be overlooking.

So far, here is what I have.....

Front Suspension

- New 4"TCI ez-ride springs
- ORD zero-rates + 1"longer U-bolts
- old 10-bolt spring plates
- ORD greaseable main-eye kit
- ORD HD greaseable shackles
- S.S. brakeline kit (10mm to reuse my 10-bolt calipers on the D44)
- shocks (undecided, will purchase a set at Truckfest this weekend)
- Ford F-250 shock towers
- bumpstops (haven't ordered yet,but will either be ORD 'stops or Daystar)
- raised steering arm

Rear Suspension

- ORD 4" shackle flip
- ORD 6.0 SuperShackles
- stock 56" rear springs
- ORD greaseable bushing kit ( 1.5" main eye, 1 3/8" shackle end...I hope they're the right size!!)
- ORD zero rates
- shocks
- bumpstops
- ORD 14BFF conversion kit (U-bolt flip,conversion u-joint,shock tabs)

Axles going in

- '76 k20 Dana44HD/14BFF (4.10's, rear Gov-Lock)

Tools I have that I suspect I'll need

- (2) 3-ton floor jacks
- (1) pr 3-ton jackstands
- (1) pr 6-ton jackstands
- Harbor Freight 4.5" angle grinder, 10-pack of cut-off wheels
- 9.6V cordless Rotary tool
- short-drive 8pc punch set (for driving out factory shackle bracket rivets)
- assorted sockets and wrenches
- rubber mallet
- dead-blow hammer
- a .50cal revolver with a single round if all else fails!

I'm still waiting on a set of 16.5" wheels that I'm getting in a trade to fit the 35x12.50R16.5 TSL SSR's I already have and I assume I will probably be using wheel spacers since the 5" of backspacing is just a tad more than I want. I haven't decided on what type of brakeline I will use to replace the 14BFF's hard-lines,but I'll get on that soon. More than likely this will all hopefully be done in a single day,but possibly over a weekend. Will also be installing an ORD 1"body lift with new poly body bushings.

Just want to make sure I cross my T's and dot my i's and don't get stuck not having the right tool or having a wrong part thats impossible to replace in a short amount of time

This truck is my daily driver!

Any pointers to make things go easier guys?

Thanks in advance:waytogo:

I could be wrong but the burb springs I have to do my 56" swap have 1.5" and 1.75" eyes in the spring. You could be right with what you but thought I'd throw that out. The burb my springs came from was a mid to late '80's I believe.

arrrg, all I had to measure was my tape measure and Stephen at ORD said he needed the internal bushing area measurement because apparently GM "emptied out parts bins" when they built the final few years of the solid-axle trucks and used different combinations of bolt/bushing sizes.

I measured the full diameter of the spring end-wraps and tried to measure the edge of the spring on top and bottom down to the bushing ,but couldn't be 100% sure.

I will take some pics of the spring ends with a tape measure near it so you'all can see. I may have to be ordering a new size and shipping back some bushings :doah:, we'll see

You may be correct there are 3 different sizes of bushings for the 56" springs.

From ORD's site.

All 1 ton truck applications and any 3/4T with 56" rear springs must measure bushing size before ordering the kit. We've seen 1 3/8", 1 1/2", and 1 3/4" bushing sizes, all on the same truck! To avoid sending the wrong parts we request that you measure first. Remember the outer sleeve is removed to use urethane.
We have encountered some '88-'91 Blazers and Suburbans with a metric spring eye bushing size. These will measure about 1.7". ORD has the proper bushings to fit these springs if you call us.

Soak it with some engine degreaser, then run it by the carwash before you start and clean the snot out of the under carriage. I wish I would have.

One thing you forgot; cold, frosty beverages to bribe friends into coming over and helping :D

Oh, the engine degreaser/ powerwashing under the truck is worth it's weight in gold, it just makes everything a little easier.

I would also start spraying anything that's going to be unbolted with your favorite penetrating oil ahead of time, a couple of times :D

Well.......When I measured the main eye and subtracted the edges of the spring above and below the bushings I got 2-5/8" and the lady over the phone said it was probably the 1.5". That sounds like the "1.7" that ORD's site mentions for the metric size. I may be sending back all (4) bushings

ITs just that the truck is my daily driver and can't wrestle with the springs to get them removed, drill out the old bushings to get the correct measurement and then leave the truck sitting for 4 or so days with the springs removed waiting for the bushings. And the place where some friends and I will be doing all this is 70 miles from where I work

Fortunately this truck is pretty clean underneath. I will be doing some degreasing and scrubbing in a few areas, but not much:waytogo:

Already have a huge cooler that will be filled with beer and ice and I'll be stopping by the store on the way to pick up steaks, potatos & shrimp to grill and beans n' potato rolls to help it go down!

I started spraying the bolts and fittings with penetrant a week ago and will keep spraying for a few weeks until its time!

Move the hangars and ditch the 4in front springs for some rebuilt 56's. Flex is cool :D

That will happen later. In a year or so when I get the funds together for a D60 front swap I'm thinking about using Diy4x's B52's and transfer the stock 56" rear springs up to the front. I have a pair of 64" rears in the garage that I will use out back

But when I get to that level, the truck will reach a whole new level. BigBlock, transfer case swap (doubler or stak),full cage,etc.....

For now, its a daily driver and I want to keep it simple and functional

sounds good to me :D
