I have this 79 k20 at the shop and I can not remember how to put these cables back together. They are the first design cables, not the ~84 and newer style.
In particular, this chingasito right here. How the hell does it work? I feel like this holds the cable at the adjuster stud on the driver side. But what does the cable do here? It is almost indiscernible in the gm manual how it goes together by illustration. I need a picture or something to show what I am likely missing. More pics of a properly assembled system the better.

Thanks

That thing joins the intermediate cable to the rear wheel cables..
My '82 GMC has a different looking thing that is similar to join them..they dont show them in this illustration well, but they are there..

When I replaced all 3 cables on my truck,I had to add a bit of threaded rod to the adjusting part on the pedal cable, and couldn't route the intermediate cable thru all of the wire frame brackets ,I had to skip using the passenger side front wire guide ,or it would never have reached the pedal cable..

I actually found that photo you posted in another thread. Unfortunately that doesnt really tell me what is happening at that adjuster stud. Scratching my brain here a little. I swear I am missing a nut or something.

What you have pictured is not what is pictured above at the adjuster.

My setup is pre-'85, and that is not what the adjusting piece looks like. My recollection is that the "adjuster" piece slips up over the cable (it's an inverted U, bent to direct the cable) and the stud passes through the hole, and that keeps the cable from falling back out.

As diesel said, that appears to be similar to the connector that joins the intermediate cable (the one the adjuster pulls on) to the rear wheel cables. It's not the same, but more closely resembles that, than the adjuster in my eye. But doesn't look to be designed to be inline either...

If that is truly a part of the e-brake system, I've never seen it before, but I haven't dealt with the pre-81 trucks too much either.

This is pretty similar, if not identical to what my setup uses for the adjuster:

here is what the connector looks like for the rear cable sections:

Those are very helpful pics. I have over 100 trucks here. It could be from any of them really.

Does anyone have photos showing the rods that guide the cables and where they are located?

These help at all? Sorry, terrible internet, can't review to see if they were worth uploading.

That right there is very appreciated. Thank y'all very much. Hopefully next time someone is looking for this they can resource this and take it. Lots of second design info out there because of 14 bolt swaps.

Thank yall again
