granted im high off the ground with 8" suspension and 40's, but how long till the underside of this rig gets fubar?

i have a carport i park it under, but i hate how the underside is supseptable to moisture.

any ideas? (without spending money..ie having a slab poured)

or should i be fine?

input:dunno:

I would think you'll be ok provided you keep the grass cut under it. My K5 body sat for about 3 years and I have problems from the tree it was under but no rust down low.

PUt a piece of plastic under it.

Car ports make rust way worse. They trap humidity and moisture.

It depends--if its an "enclosed" carport or a "tent" garage, yes, they will encourage moisture to form and increase the chances of rusting...but a carport with open sides or ends isn't quite as likely to allow moisture to build up..

My experience in my yard is as long as its parked on tar, cement,or hard packed dirt/gravel,the rusting is kept to a minimum...park it on the grass though, and in 2 years you'll be wishing you lived in Arizona..because the whole undercarriage will be flaking and peeling apart, and the frame too...grass gets wet every night with dew and when it dries the next day,it puts out some kind of acid it seems, that eats metal away rather quickly..

If you can put some crushed stone under the truck and cover it with a tarp or plastic, that will help a lot....that said,I think I should move MY Suburban off the grass where I parked it for the winter before it rusts any worse than it is altrady..:doah:...

thanks so much for the help/replies

yes my carport is a metal one with open on all sides
no grass, just dirt on bottom

i think i will get some heavy gage plastic where i can find some and cover the ground the best i can

thanks again!

Blue tarps are cheap,or you can buy rolls of heavy polyethelyne at places like Lowes or Home Depot...I think 4 MIL is the thickest..black will keep weeds from growing under it too..

..if you can get access to free pallets anywhere, ask around if they also have any OSB board that often comes on pallets--I got over 120 sheets free once where I got free pallets for firewood, and I used it for many things, including a "floor" for my shed, that is just a lean-too off a truck body with a dirt floor--the wood does rot away in a few years, but its free, and I just burn it in my brush piles when it gets too mushy after it dries out...

..if your able to afford plywood ,pressure treated will last a long time...the think I liked about the waferboard is it absorbs oil and grease ,so I put a sheet under my truck when its on my driveway to prevent damage to the asphalt-my oil pan leaks ..I burn it after it gets fully saturated..
