I recently bought a 77 jimmy, and im not sure how to tell if its a full time or part time 4x4. Is there any surefire way to tell this without tearing open the transfer case? I know this suv has a NP203 transfer case and manual hubs. but im not sure how to tell. Any info would be great!

Will it move in Hi or Lo (Not Hi Lock or Lo Lock) with the front hubs unlocked? If so, it is still full time.

Sounds like it already does if it has lockouts. Unlocking the hubs with a 203 will just cause the front shaft to spin really fast while the rear is doing nada....

You got that backwards... Hi or low with the hubs unlocked wont move.. Front shaft will get the power and spin like crazy... Truck wont move

You're right, I wrote that backwards. If it won't move with the front hubs unlocked in Hi or Lo, it is still full time. It should still move if you put it in Hi Lock or Lo Lock though.

Not if you lock out the differential.

The transfer case also won't shift up at all. It goes down even when the trucks off, but not up at all.

Thanks guys. I found out that all the shifter parts were backwards. So instead of going forward for 2hi and 4hi, it was trying to go below 4lo. It's all fixed now. Thanks for the feedback
