I have a 82 GMC. All stock, what is full time, and part time, and how do
you tell the difference. THANKS

PS, I was told I was on full time drive.

if you still have the floor indicator telling you the gears

a fulltime unit (NP203) will have 4H N 4L : meaning you are always in 4wd but in high/low fashion.

if the shift nob has loc in the pattern its full time and 203 case. but it might have been converted at 1 time. and if no hubs just smooth cap and no emblems on frt axle hubs then 203 full time.

the 203 was only offered until 79 so if it is orignal it would be a 208 transfer case which is a part time case

If I remember correctly, there are 4 options on my gear selector on the floor.

I do remember a neutrual to. I put it in 4L and tried to drive it on the street,
man, It jerked so hard when I gave it gas, my head almost went through the rear window LOL. SOOOOOOOOOOOO LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW of a gear :D

i like the gmc grill my self. and thats all gm stuff. thats the current truck in buildup . its all in my profile. all sorts of goodys. that truck is a 500 doller special with 37k origanal miles on the frame and axles. the body is 138k miles from tenn off a 2x4 truck.

is your tcase cast iron or alum? cast is 203 and 205. alum is 208 and newer. but 203 has alum tail housing and 205 all cast except the seal holders.

a 203 should have five postions on the shift knob 4HI Loc, 4 HI, N, 4 LO, 4 LO LOC so if you only have four it should be a 208 which is part time
