... with the group number?
Hi,
I've got the super nice  GM parts and illustration catalog, a great help for restoring my k5:D, BUT:

most of the parts in the catalog are shown with the part number, but there are several pages, where only the group numbers are supplied.
for example:
I'm looking for a frame-mounted bracket. Group 7.000 ( page 7-11 on bottom of the page) and the specific part number: 7.380 How can I no find out the part number of that bracket? :doah:these group numbers somehow suck

Thanks a lot!

Greetings

Flo

Did you get both parts of the manual?

One will be the illustration guide, which lists part numbers when there are only at most two or three part numbers for the same item (say, gauge cluster housing, with or without gauges) the other is the reference for things like EGR valves, torque converters, etc., which have MANY part numbers for the same (similar) part. The parts illustration will list the exact group number based on picture...say you need a torque converter. You find the diagrams of the 700R4, find the torque converter, get the number off the diagram, go to the next page, look up the part number. Since there are multiple converters used, it will only show you the group number, but it will then give you the "exact" group number (4.440 for instance) which you look up in the other manual.

These are how you figure out the exact group http://dyeager535.topcities.com/partsmanual.html 7.380 is still part of the group number, you need to be able to narrow it down to the actual part name, then look for that to get the part #.

@Dyeager:
thanks a lot for your help! Well, the manual seems to be complete, the major parts of the manual do supply the part numbers, unfortunately, the axle, frame, and several other sections only come with group numbers (and I just don't find the section where the part numbers to these groups are). Is your manual consisting of two parts? I've only got one (heavy) folder. It's the 86 chevy light duty trucks manual (sub/k5/truck/van)

What manual do you have?

Thanks again

Flo

Sorry, don't have them handy, I'll try and post up tonight. Mine covers '85-88.

The one I linked to is the parts/illustration guide, the other one has no pictures, JUST the group numbers and parts. It's just as thick.

If the book you have looks like what I posted, you are missing the book where you look up the non-specified part numbers. It's a set. I don't have any photos from that one, but I can at least get you the title tonight.

OK I may have been mistaken. It may be one book that has been divided into two.

The cover says "CKRV ('85-88) Parts and Illustration Catalog". Publication number appears to be 52R.

So if this is a two piece book, it starts off with identifying the body style, VIN decoding, then starts into page after page of the major group numbers, with the sub-group numbers inside each "Chapter".

Assuming the illustration w/part numbers are part of this book, they are the last half of the entire book.

I'd say maybe 1000 pages combined.

If these are done like our IPC for our airplaines you would look at the illistration and match the P/N to the Number on the Illistration. If the part has components that are not illistrated they are listed on a bullet below the part number.

Similar. If the part number is not listed due to several variations of the same piece, then you need to go to the front of the book, (using the group number given n the parts illustration portion where the part number would be for most items) look up that group number, and find the proper part.

Usually the factors influencing the part numbers are things like GVWR, 1/2, 3/4 ton, etc., engine size, brake option, gear ratio, etc.

I probably wasn't extra clear in my previous post...the first half of the book has no pictures other than for things like identifying the body style and decoding VIN, just page after page of part numbers broken into groups, while the last half of the book is the one with pictures of just about every piece.

My manual is exactly as stated by dyeager535

Parts and Illustration Catalog C, K, G, P Light Duty Models Series 10 Thru 35 1985
Effective January, 1985 Publication number 52B

Flo, i looked at Group 7.380 ("Bracket, Shock Absorber"), there's no part for a Blazer (K1), just for CK3 and P2,3 models. However keep in mind that mine is a 1985 catalog.

Hi just wanted to tell you why I could not find the part numbers:
Unfortunately, my manual is missing some of the first pages (fell out or so, bought the manual used) , so I couldn t find the correct numbers for the axle parts. But that's no problem anymore, I almost forgot that I also have the m1009/m1008 army manuals on my harddrive so I can look up every part number I need.:D:D:D:D
Thanks again for your help!

Greetings from Bavaria
