Drain the fluids first of all.

Put it inside a large trash bag (to keep the oil contained), cut pieces of cardboard to fit around the t-case and tape the hell out of it.

I did this to an NP205 years ago and shipped it thru UPS. It came under the 150 lbs. max weight rating. I had to ship the adaptor, shifter, etc. in a separate box.
 
I PMed ya with a different story, but this would probably work too.

I guess I'll share with the whole class...I had an engine block shipped to me via FedEx Freight from WA to OK. It weighed approx 250 pounds and it came out to $70. I don't know if the shipper put the block on the crate and banded it or if FedEx did it and that was included in the price.
