parts truck questions!

couple of questions, my brother just bought a 76' chevy 2wd 6cyl parts truck, it has a 4 speed in it, is it a sm465? also, he is wanting the wiring harness out of it, to go into his 77' his underdash wiring is hacked! so can we just seperate the harness at the firewall and plug back in what we need and be ok? he has a v8 so will there be a problem with the 6cyl wiring?

well I guess it could be a sm465, have you seen the truck? if you look at the trans you will know whether or not it is one... not sure how familiar you are with them, but an sm465 is huge compared with most other manual trans. And if you don't feel like peeking under the truck, see if "first gear" is unsynchronized.

How much did your brother pick it up for, If I can ask?

sorry, can't help you with the wiring though, sometimes wiring harnesses were different between different models when they probably didn't need to be engineered that way, but they are... i'm sure someone will know this though

I wonder, if it is an sm465, whether or not it has a hydro clutch setup, i'm not sure when that changeover happened... anyone know?

Wow, I feel stupid, just noticed you have a sm465 in your 72', i'm sure you know what one looks like then.. just disregard my horrible explanation then

lol, we went and got it with the trailer last weekend, got it for $100 bones, no steering column or front seat, complete other than that, they said it runs, but i dont know that i believe them. he bought it from a shady carlot, they gave him a title for a 72' pickup? i didnt crawl or even peek under it, it does have a manual bellhousing, not the hydro, the body is in pretty good shape too.
