My 88 k5 has stress cracks around the back 2 bolts on the passanger seat floor pan, do i have to cut it out or can i just weld the cracks and or reinforce the pan in that area??

im just going to replace the floor pan on that side. I went by a welding shop and they told me even if i welded the cracks it would continue to split and i would be better off just getting a new pan and putting it in .

They gave you a load of crap, just weld it up. Maybe reinforce it from the under side. There is no reson to replace the floor pan just for a crack.

yea but the cracks are spidered and have gone through both back bolt holes plus i already ordered the pan so....

I feel your pain on those cracks, I ripped out my whole interior and discovered that one of the rear mounts of my driver's seat is resting on the heat shield below the floor because of how cracked the floor is (the cracked area is almost a foot front to back!). Almost all the other front seat mounts are cracked too. I don't know how to weld so, once I get the truck running again, I am going to take it to a body shop, hopefully they won't gouge $$$ me too bad! At least, I now know I am not the only one that has had this problem, I was shocked when I found it.:eek1:

I just recently discovered stress cracks around all four corners of both the drivers and passenger seats.
