I wanna know what the flares are cause I've never seen that style before and I want a set bad:eek1: Them are exactly what I was thinking for mine but didnt know they existed

Actually the blues close too, but I was thinking burnt orange or a darker metallic gray bottom fading up into the blue. My jaw dropped when I seen that side shot of this in the other thread. its so close to what I've been envisioning in my head

Thanks, been a long road getting it done, Basically the truck was restored by a buddy of mine. He had owned it since Highschool he blew up the other 6.5 that was in it ( actually how I met him ) and the truck sat in his shop for the next 5 years at that point it had 14" of suspension and 41" Iroks on 20" homo-ghey rims . as it sat un fixed the truck slowly got robbed of parts until about a year ago when I made a deal with him to sell it to me and put it back together in the configuration you see here . I built the engine but the rest of the work would be done by him.

well a year later and he hadn't so much as touched it so since I've been off work I went in and helped him get it finished it was a mad dash to get it drivable but its "done"

But , after driving it we have decided it will get a 1-ton swap with crossover, 37" tires on 17" wheels instead of the 16.5's, ditch the clear tail lights, Install airbags in the rear, put a detroit in the rear, turn the pump up alot!!!, Disc brakes in the rear, install more lighting in the cab, ditch the CV driveline in the rear for a conventional shaft.........which may also involve swapping the 205 for a 241 with a SYE , adding a Muffler, Barn Door swap and new paint , ditch the nitro shocks for some good bilstein 5100's

Paint and body will wait until the crew cab is done , but the rest will be weekend projects. as I have all the parts needed.

pic whoring > whore picking!!!

Gus, Does that trans cooler setup let the trans get up to 175* or so before it allows cooling? Just wondered about the temp of the trans, as cold as it gets and condensation issues within the trans, you worried about getting the trans hot enough to burn off condensation, or is that setup going to allow full warm up?

As of now its bypassed completely , I would like some way of allowing the trans to get to operating temp

what do you do, cut the rear section off for the swap...?

I think you can go from tailgate to barn doors easy but barn dors to tailgate not so much. Not sure on that just think I read that hear some where cause I like tailgate more than my barn doors:dunno:

Its pretty involved as my whole rear tail pan is from a 91 burb when it was restored . Patty cant reach the handle on the inside from outside. That combined with the completely new GM tailgate and inner guts and weather stripping is only working about 1/4 of the time barn doors always work.

I had barn doors on my first 'burb, I got spoiled by them.

my initial research shows it was a bolt in swap up to 81. after that it's more complicated...

Awesome! :waytogo: Nice to finally see someone as anal as me about underhood cleanliness. I have a buddy in Detroit that works for AM General’s General Engine Products division which builds the Optimizer 6500 for Military, Marine, Industrial and service replacements for the old legacy GM 6.2/6.5L. About 6 years ago we found him a rust free ’88 V2500 Burb here in CO with a dead 6.2L. He shipped out a brand new marine version of the Optimizer 6500 with a prototype injection pump (non-Stanadyne). It too was fitted with a Banks Sidewinder turbo. Man, that Sub ran awesome. Even with a TH400, 4:10 cogs and 35” tires he squeezed over 20 MPG driving it back to Detroit. He later installed a 4L80E on a standalone TCM and bumped the MPG up even higher. Wish I could have kept that burb or at least the engine! This guy also had a ’95 Burb with Optimizer 6500 with both a blower and turbo. It was a weird looking engine but the blower was short lived. Sounded way cool though with blower whine and turbo whistle going on at the same time. It ran liked a scalled dog until it practically blew a piston out through the tailpipe. Something about overboost. :doah:

Again, great looking Burb you got here. Looking forward to following this thread.

Gus, I was instructed by Coan transmissions to go through the engine radiator to raise the trans temp to engine temp, then go through an auxilliary cooler.
ONLY exception is a thremo controlled flow valve inline to keep the oil circulating through the trans until temp is up, or a summer only vehicle (like the Vette is) where temps would reach operating temp quicker.

Yes! Glad you made a thread for this perfect piece of machinary! I really wanted to put a 6.5 td in my burb but needed it and was faster to replace the 350. I wanna know how that 6.5 sounds with the straight piped 3.5" :D

Oh and btw the shot of your driveway is a nice site

Both the burb and my crew cab have the Optimizer 6.5 long blocks as my starting point.:D I'd love to find the supercharger for my other 6.2 in my buggy
