Somewhere between pavement princess and trail king is a cool place to be at with a truck. I wish i would have stuck with that build philosphy...

x2.
Realize the man who said that has a K5 that is on the extreme side of all the rigs here.
Years ago I wanted a big Blazer on huge tires and was going to just tear up everything and somehow daily drive it...then I grew up and got married, bought a house, collected monthly bills, etc etc etc. I can't afford to tear crap up anymore. Not to mention to top it off I moved back to the rust belt for some stupid reason.

My offroad trips have gone from a regular thing when I was single to maybe yearly.
We can afford to pay our bills, own our three vehicles, keep them running, have some luxuries in our house, have our two dogs, and generally maintain some semblance of middle class. If I'm lucky I can squeak out mods or improvements for one of the vehicles and sometimes support my other hobbies. Stretched thin...yeah.
Big Ugly is as much a toy as it is a hauler/tower and back up daily driver. It has 38's on it because they were cheaper than the 700R4 swap to tame my lack of OD and 4.56 gears. I have owned it for a year now and it's only offroad time has been playing around in the side yard and driving me to work last winter in the foot or so of snow we got. Does fine and that's what I need it to be more than a rock crawler or mud bogger.
Build your truck with an eye to the future and what you will be doing and where you will be. I hate to see folks selling off their rig after they put years worth of work into it and find life and their situation can't support the rig anymore. I could have put a 4" lift on my truck but then it wouldn't have fit in my garage...and I'd have my 90% rust free baby sitting outside in the snow and ice...
However I can Rhino Liner the bed, floors, and lower body when I have the money, have rock rails put into the rockers, mount the spare, etc etc etc etc with the view of being able to wheel it and have fun without going over the edge of not being able to use it to go get drywall or tow a trailer/vehicle.
Rambling but that's where I've found myself in life. I guess I'm saying have a dream for your vehicle but keep it realistic.
