Performance 700r4/4l60e's, what are you running and how do you like it?

B&M kickdown kit

Favorite 700R4 upgrade Is a Deep pan and the B&M kickdown kit part number 70237. Eliminates part throttle forth to third downshifts. I was going through a 700 a year towing my 33ft Airstream, Yes In overdrive after putting In one of these. I have about 23,000 miles on it without a problem and the trans. Temp. has gone down well towing!!! :D :D

I agree that most 700R4 troubles come from poorly adjusted TV cables, either from toying around or just plain ignorance. I fell into the ignorance category, tooling around for a while with mine unhooked and wondering why the thing was suddenly running like crap. (Was just after an engine swap, go figure, so I chalked it up to "Gee, I must be churning out so much HP that the tranny can't handle it.") Once 2nd gear was totally shot, I finally admitted that I had problems beyond my ability to fix. Went to the local tranny shop that I've known for years and asked them to build a new one that I could really fram on. They built me a stout one, fixed my TV cable, and I installed an Art Carr shifter and now bang the hell out of that thing.

Bottom line is, a properly built and adjusted 700R4 will handle most of your everyday needs unless you're running ridiculous HP. (I'm personally running a full roller 383 which should be plenty strong and have experienced no problems) For a long time, I, like others, gave this tranny a bad rap. Get it fixed right once and you'll enjoy it for a long time.

Running 44s with 5.38 gears and can cruise at 60 mph at about 2300 rpm, still with a lower first gear than a 350 or 400. Gotta love it...
