The bone stock 206K mile TBI 350 in my '91 Burb is hoppin on its last legs and I've waited as long as I can. I'm building this truck on a "budget" (yea, right:eek1: ) and if I put another 350 in , I want one that is reliable enough to use daily if I want, but upgraded for more low-end grunt and all around performance within the limits of modified TBI injection, or possibly Edelbrocks' MPFI conversion.

Anyone have the line on performance replacement longblocks for the '87-95 GM TBI 350 engines and the necessary computer mods to accomodate?

The 210hp/300ft-lb GMPerformance Parts factory stock replacement longblock is not going to cut it.

This is a Suburban that will keep the 700R4 tranny(Bowie Overdrives) and see 35-38" tires initially with 4.88-5.13 geared 1-tons and I want it to move with no fuss.

Of course there is option B: TBI454 swap but I don't think I have the time to to fund all the odds and ends for that swap yet.

Just build a 383 stroker and have a chip burnt and install the correct injectors. The 383 makes tons of low end torque.

Agreed. Not going to be "cheap", but I guess that depends on what cheap is to you. :)

aye

I've been considering that. As soon as I find a local builder that I can trust ,and that has experience building the old TBI motors for power I'll see whats what.

I'm thinking Vortec MPFI 383

Starting to see more and more of the Blueprint engines showing up. Anyone have any experience or opinions on them.

G-Force... I'm in the same predicament, but 13k miles further down the highway. 219k earlier this week.

Brian at www.tbichips.com says he has been working with them on a 383. Quoted directly from his site:

280hp 388lbs 383 torque monster. I have been working with Blue Print Engines on building a nice 383 that will run with TBI with the least amount of modifications to the TBI system and this is what we came up with. 280hp may not sound like a great deal but this is with the 500cfm throttle body and we built it mainly for trucks and that 388lbs of torque comes in VERY low in the rpm range at 2800 rpms. This motor has 70hp and 88lbs of torque more than the stock L05 TBI 350 motor did. The torque curve is just amazing on this motor and I don't think you will be disappointed. You can give them a call at 1-800-483-4263 and tell him Brian from TBICHIPS sent you.

I would suspect that with those power levels, it's a very streetable motor.

Cool that Brian is well known enough to be working with engine builders, and also cool that there are engine builders out there sensitive to the needs of injected engine owners, instead of just carbed ones.

Question for you TBI owners, is the 500CFM throttle body mentioned the SBC or BBC version?

It sounds like a bored SB version. CFM Tech claims stock flows 480cfm, so that isnt much of an improvement. I am running their bored TB which they rate at 620cfm with cop car injectors on my 383.
