Just did an oil change on a new to me truck. It has a 6 cylinder Perkins turbo diesel. I think its a T6.354 mistery motor. Truck had great pressure when I shut it down. Wasn't thinking and put a dry oil filter on it. I pulled the filter and it was still dry so filled it up and put it back on. Still no pressure. I pulled the sending unit and nothing is coming out the hole.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for any help

I know this sounds stupid, and I apologize, but I have seen both done, and done one of them myself.

Did you put oil in it, and did you replace the drain plug........

did the plug thing just the other day myself. Didn't actually start it that way. Just poured two quarts through the motor into the drain pan.

I was flushin' it ya see, yeah that's it....

Yeah I put 4 gallons in it. LOL In fact it could be a little over filled.

Well, if its got oil, and the engine is turning over, there is not a lot of things to do. If it was a gasser, you could pull the distributor and spin the pump.

Unless its got a bunch of sludge that stopped up the pickup, I don't know of much that would cause the pump to not prime.

If you had something that would pump oil under pressure you could hook it up to the pressure port and maybe do it that way.

With a dry filter, I have seen it take almost a minute for the pressure to come up. I didn't like that, so like you I almost always try to fill the filter.

Well is it or isn't it? Is this a no dipstick style engine? What's the oil level.

It is overfilled. Pretty sure it dosen't have the proper dipstick. But its above the max line slightly. I've only had it a couple of weeks.

In my opinion its run to long. Although their hasn't been any knock. I also tried to blow air into one of the pressure ports to unblock the screen if there is a blockage at all.
