I have a nephew who is allergic to insect repellent spray and needs a good electronic repellent to carry with him when he goes fishing. any suggestions? I know a lot of you guys are in the military or do a lot more camping and probably know of a lot more devices out there than I do. TIA!

Could you be more specific on what he is alergic to? There's more than one type of repellent.

Could just be an alergy to DEET, in which case, he can still use Ultrathon, or use Permetherone on his clothing.

Other than that, there are home remedies- Skin so soft, sometimes others have said sage leaves help to.

I know deet and can't remember any of the rest. I'll get him some of the SSS and see how it does. thanks for all the info, I'll check with his mom and see what all he can't use. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Forgot to say, none of those ultrasound suckers work that well- If you want one to try out, Just buy me a beer or something, and I got one for the wall socket, and also a personal clip on ultrasound one. Never really worked too well for me. Even the low concentrations of deet isnt really all that effective nowadays. I'd use a minimum of a 30% concentration. You could check if he could use it on his clothing- A high dose on clothing might be enough to protect his face and arms...

Last time I went camping we used a new trick we learned from my mother in law. Pin a dryer sheet (Bounce) to your shirt. It keeps the skeeters away pretty good.

I was able to get ahold of a repelant that is 98% deet. Wow it stains the clothes, but the mosquitoes are no where to be found. Also taking garlic pills will cure that. As well as prevent stroke and heartattack. So the pills are the best route.

i was always taught that to keep skeeters/any flying bugs away at night just have something lit. take someone who smokes with you, make a fire, light a candle... the smallest amount of smoke keeps them away. its worked for me so far.

also if there is ANY wind/breeze there will be no mosquitos. period

Best thing I have used is a Thermocell outfit from Bass Pro Shops. Its odorless and works better than any lotion or spray I have tried. I bowhunt starting in mid August when its hot as hell and the skeeters are on the warpath! Not one bite! I was skeptical when I first heard of this device, but It goes with me everytime I hit the woods.

thanks! just bought one the other day that was on sell. I used it out on the front porch when I was painting after getting eat up with some biting flies and no more bites! so I can't wait to see what happens to the skeeters.
