Pete's 70

hey man, what part of az are you in?? i'm down in queen creek. any chance you'd want to build another rear bumper setup like that??? :D

I'm up in north central phoenix area. I'm kinda busy but I have a friend who did the welding and helped with some fab on the bumper, he might be willing to do something. What are you looking for?

I have a mallory HEI in my 71 and it fits fine. It's close, way close, but I can still adjust the timing and it doesn't hit the firewall when flexed.

I just can't pull the dizzy without pulling the cap and wires first.

Can someone measure the rear body mount standoff for me. I cut the floor from a long bed truck and am sectioning it in, but the rear mount seems to be about an inch too tall. I'm thinking the rear mount welded to the floor must be different between the truck and blazer. Here is a pic of mine, I need the same measurement from a blazer. Thanks.

I had a friend measure the mounts. The blazer rear body mount is about 1" tall and the truck mount is 3" tall. Time to start cutting. thanks.

That picture of your mount looks pretty close to the blazer size.

The metal portion of the mount is 2-3/4" and the rubber puck (missing in my picture) is about 1/2" - 3/4". The frame just ends right at that mount.

I cut my down today and welded the rear of the bad patch. Thanks for the measurements. I ended up cutting them short, but nothing a few washers wouldn't fix.

I welded the back part of my bed replacement today. I TIG welded it since it was in the garage and I was too lazy to borrow a mig. I probably mig the front seam to same some time.

GO PETE GO!!!!!! :waytogo:

Lookin' good, keep that momentum going.....

More tank pics. If I just made my whole blazer out of cardboard it would be way cheeper. lol

PLEASE keep up with the measurements on this tank!! I am VERY interested in building one quite similar. I think what you might do internally is have a baffle, or several baffles with holes put in strategic places to direct or keep the fuel where you want it. You could also build a small box around the pick-up to function as a feed sump. Maybe a box or cylinder with a few notches along the bottom of it, just to keep the fuel around the pickup.

I also love the rear bumper you've got here too. Very nice!! Maybe you could get me the dimensions of that thing too!!

Great work!!

Later,
Buddy

Thanks for the bumper comments. I'll try to get some dimensions.

As for the tank I would definately do some type of baffling. At a minimum I would do what you said of have plates run cross tank and front back to stop sloshing. I think the prefered method may be to use foam blocks like in race tanks. If I use foam I need to make an access door since the foam doesn't last forever, And the foam is expensive..

pete it was great talking to you today, funny to find out you have been ok ck5 all this time, I have even already read this thread and never knew it was yours:haha:

Funny, I see your comments in posts a bunch. I was looking at your buggy pics earlier today, nice work.

New Toy.
Time to fab a front bumper. It will eventually get synthetic rope and the 6hp XP motor. I'll probably mount the control box in the engine compartment.

I got a ProBond bedliner gun and case of material to line the interior. My first test was the inner fenders. The coat went on super fast. The two 750ml tubes mix together in the gun like epoxy and spray out in about a minute. Only 4sq feet per 2 tube kit. Shows how thick the product is. Unfortunately I don't have enough to finish so I'll be ordering another case of 6 kits for about $160. Still cheeper than paying for LineX, but there is definately something to say about paying for the operator skill. The stuff sprays fast and you can't stop after starting.

Painted the inner parts outside. I'll be taking the k5 to a rental booth to shoot the final outside coat. Just a little too much dust to finish it outside.

pete if you would like to use my booth I could arrange it for you. I need to be down at the shop for some jeeps Im building anyways. Feel free to call me. This way you could use the tape off racks and plastic to make it easier as well as take your time and if you run into a problem or run late you don't end up in a bind. A night or weekend would work just fine for me.

That's a super sweet offer Shawn. I'll give you a call. It's definitely better not to be rushed.
