I posted in the club area, but I thought I'd try to get more info here. I'm considering a move to Tucson, but my 83 K5 is totally stripped of emissions. It's got TBI now, so it'd probably pass the sniffer, but I'm worried about a visual inspection.

I was just reading about the collectible car exemption. Has anyone taken that route? I put few miles on my K5, so that's not a problem, but does using a truck for off-road trail riding count, or do you really have to drive the thing in parades and go to car shows?

To pass here you need all the smog equipment for that year of engine. sense you are fuel injected it would need that year range smog equipment.

The smog equipment from 1983 makes no sense with TBI. You need all the crazy vacuum lines from the 1983 crazy smog carb. Does nobody in Phoenix do fuel injection upgrades?

What I mean was the smog equipment from that TBI year. Sense you have a 83, with a 87-91 fuel injection system from our body style should pass. I talked with a guy at the testing center about a engine swap, he said just everything from that year of engine is needed.

Sorry, I re read what I said and it made no sense above in my first post. :haha:

If you don't dd it, just leave it registered in IA. I am from SD and that's what I do. I just register it at my dad's address. I've been in phoenix for 5 years and have never had a problem

That's a thought. Have you ever been pulled over for speeding or something? What's the excuse at that point?

If you don't draw attention to yourself (like speeding or reckless driving) you will be fine. I have been pulled over before for a broken tail light and I just told him it was my dad's truck and that he was a snowbird visiting. There is alot of snowbirds down here so out of state plates are everywhere.
