I know this is chit chat but I read on another forum that lots of folks are getting an email from Photobucket that they are locking down accounts and want $400 for to release the pics. I've not had any issues yet but I've noticed other folks getting a "band width exceed" box when trying to link pics.

I guess it's time to find another hosting service, I'll be backing up all my stuff tonight.

Without logging into my account, looks like there is a 10GB(?) limit on bandwidth.

Lots of high quality photos, and a lot of traffic are probably the causes. Apparently resets every month until you hit the limit again, and so on. Likely why you'd start hearing about it this close to the end of the month.

I've not had issues, but I have very few photos up.

Dug into it a bit, their FAQ shows how to determine how much bandwidth you've used(http://support.photobucket.com/hc/en-us/articles/200723934-Check-Your-Account-Status), but following that, storage is listed, not bandwidth. Almost like they updated the system and not the FAQ.

I'm not even sure the bandwidth limit is listed on the site anymore. i can't find it, but the site is also acting weird.

Thier site sucks, the app however is pretty easy to use. I have all my pics on a HD so they can suck it.

I was all gungho to leave Photobucket and start using Google's image service, whatever it's called now, until I figured out it's not setup for use on forums. So I decided to just pony up and pay for a Photobucket subscription and it does seem to run smoother than the free account.

The free app is ok but quirky for me at times. My biggest complaint is there is 1 particular pop up ad that has a siren like 2-3 sec squeal, really caught me off guard the first couple of times.

I am happy with PB, I just don't want to be held ransom for my own stuff. If I may, was your subscription a "normal" price or the $400?

I just noticed on my K5 build thread that all my pics have an error and are not showing up...mine says that photobucket is not allowing 3rd party hosting on the free accounts anymore, and want the $400 to be able to do that (aka, link photos to forums)...sorry guys, I guess nobody gets to see pics of my rig on here anymore, cause aint no way I'm paying that much just for photos...find me on facebook and I'll keep putting pics up there instead

I wonder if those having the problem are posting pb hosted pics on multiple forums? i don't post any pics from PB anywhere outside of ck5.

The big picture is scary, TONS of tech on forums is now "lost". As someone on Pirate suggested, this could be the end of a lot of forums because people wont want to fix old (or even newer) pics potentially driving folks away.

This is my thought exactly. You know how long it would take me to go back through both of my build threads (on my K5 and my V3500) and move all my pics to a new hosting site, and then relink the correct photos on each post....sorry, I would rather spend my time actually building/wheeling, or doing other stuff than that.

You are correct, so many pics archived on forum sites are going to be gone because of this...screw PB

I already did this once when ck5 switched over to the new forum software. Was not fun.....

This happened with another photo hosting service once before, except they just went out of business and shut down without warning one day. It won't break the internet. We will just have to read the text a little more.

I must have done the ad-free subscription; no way I'd pay $400. That would buy a lot of cool truck parts!

I do at least have all my pictures on the computer too, so it' not a huge concern as far as personally. I does suck to search threads and find dead photos. I do remember several years ago running into the bandwidth issue on PB. I just had to delete some photos I didn't need. I remember paying for PB when I first started using it, then it was allowing enough on the free account I could stop paying. The only reason I started paying again is to avoid the annoying ads.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I feel like the service is valuable enough to make it paying $2.49/mon. I should get in the habit of uploading photos here since this is where I post 99% of them.

I have the 100 dollar account with PB. Guess I better start backing up photos. BS!

I'd guess that a huge majority of Photobucket users use it to direct link pictures to forums. With that functionality now gone (unless you want to pay $400 a year - 4 times more than buying your own web hosting space) I'd expect Photobucket to die off soon. Like has been mentioned before, the true loss will be the historical stuff on thousands of forums. All of that information, except for the text, is basically gone.

The go-to on most forums I'm on these days, including Reddit, is Imgur. I've been using that for years. You might give that a shot at some point.

I didn't realize it was unlimited. :pimp:

Looks like I'll be moving a couple of hundred pics over here.
