I've had this never-ending process lately of removing all of the HVAC from my k10 so this weekend's project was to fill in the firewall so it's not so freakin' loud when I drive it.... plus the fumes were a downside.

Anyways, here's some pics...

It's not exactly how I wanted it but it works great. The cab is quieter than when I had all the ducting and the shoebox on the firewall and obviously a heck of a lot quieter than when it was open...

Eventually I'll move the battery and overflow tank up there so I can ditch the inner fender wells but for now this'll work.

As of now no...

I only drive the k10 a couple times a month and other than that it's trailered to pismo and back...

I forget that you guys have decent weather most of the year... :doah:

Up here it's almost required due to the windows fogging from the moisture in the air and the colder winters

Yeah living in a desert has it's perks :D

Dang Avery, what's the advantage to ditchin your A/C ??? you trying to save weight or you going all hardcore???

No aspect of my HVAC has ever worked... I've dumped quite a bit of time/money into it with no progress so I said forget it.
I daily drove it through high school without any A/C or Heat without any problems so why would I need it now...

For one it gives me more space under the hood, plus I'm thinking of putting a york I took off my dad's truck in place of my A/C compressor...

Sheet metal screws and body seam filler?

Pretty much... sheet metal screws and a tube of RTV that said it was for high temp applications. I'm not sure how hot it gets on the firewall but I figured being where it's at it couldn't hurt.

That looks great!! How much stuff did you take out from the inside?

Everything... :eek1:

The only thing left inside that's related to HVAC is the control unit but it'll be gutted once I'm ready to build my dash.

I did the same thing when I did my engine swap. I figured with no top or doors it wasn't needed.

Then I relocated the battery to the firewall.

That looks great!

You don't have any problems with the bolts pulling through the firewall? I've seen quite a few guys that have put the battery up there now but I'm still not sure how it'll take the abuse of that much weight hanging on there.
I'm assuming you put something in the cab where it bolts through to disperse the load so has that been enough?

I believe it was Rene (but I could be wrong) who sunk them in the floor behind the front seats and in front of the wheel wells... pretty slick.

No problems with it. I welded big fender washers to the back side.
