I just ordered the hd tie rod from ORD and the steering stabilizer mounting kit. I am requesting some pics of the steering stabilizer setup.. Im kind of curious as to how to set it up.. thanks.

did you figure out the best way to do this? I just got mine in. i was going to just measure, and put the steering stabilizer halfway out of its travel, and then hold it up to the tie rod and mount it up. sound good? pics would rock

that method sounds good
try it and get back to us, I doubt there's much to fuss over
might be easier if you turn the wheels all the way, one way. Extend the stabilizer, or compress it, all the way. Then go back an inch and mount in. Turn wheels opposite way to check. Be happy

so i pulled the steering stabilizer itself all the way out (fully extended).

measured the inner rod, and made a small mark at the halfway point (in my case, it was right at 10" long)

I pressed the stabilizer in until the inner rod was only 5" out and attached one end of the stabilizer (enclosed end) to the existing mount on the axle.

then i held the stabilizer in place and installed the ORD mount onto the tie rod at the exact point that the stabilizer was set at.

look good so far? all i need to source now, is the proper bolt to use to mount the stabilizer to the ORD mount.

sounds good
bummer it didn't come with a bolt, might be different sizes out there

ya know, i didnt think about it until you said that...bummer it didnt come with a bolt...

i started thinking, yeah, surely it came with a bolt. so i dug the box out of the trash...sure enough, taped to the bottom of the box was the bolts. geez, coors light engineering over here.

anyway...DONE! does that setup look correct? i was starting from scratch pretty much.

p.s. yes, the ORD bracket comes with 3 u bolts...i overtightened one and broke the bolt. i will replace it, but it should be fine for now with just the 2.

I broke one of the bolts as well, they include very cheaply made bolts that they snap so easily, I barely torqued it at all and snap!

No worries, I don't blame the bolts. I was just using too much force. You know that last extra push, that u end up regretting...I didn't use a torque wrench because I didn't see any recomended settings. Either way its no biggie.

haha i broke a u bolt as well when I put mine on. :doah: might want to get some paint on it to keep it purdy :D

hmmm, these are things that I need to know BEFORE I install everything :doah:

hmmm, maybe I can just hit it with paint brush with some engine paint or something..perhaps red?

make sure you scuff it up with a scotch brite pad or the paint will peel right off.

Is your tierod mounted upside-down making it lower on the vehicle than required?

If so, gives you a reason to take it off and paint it. If not... Then I'll just shut up now:-)

Oops, just remembered those ends are tapered and only go in one way.

well, thats at least the way the stock one was mounted.

with the taper, they wouldnt have gone in the other way

im gonna replace my wheel bearings and ball joints soon, so i guess it will be off then anyway and i can paint it.
