Pic whorin\' (I don\'t do it often)

Finally got around to putting up some new pics in my sig link. Here are some teaser pics. We do all of our own bulding/welding other than body work. Click on "The K5" for more pics.

This is our 1975 1 ton crew cab dually utility truck turned DD for my mom. It now has a 454 700R4 208 D60 14B combo sitting under an 87 clip/grill and short bed. The tires are 35-1450-16 nitto terras on a 6" BDS kit. I figur you clean body guys will like this one.

Then there is my K5, it is now fully caged, with a D60/14FF, doubler, lockers, x-over and rock rash(been busy in the last year) it is my DD.

Short bed crews RULE!! /forums/images/graemlins/crewcab.gif

Re: Pic whorin\' (I don\'t do it often)

I want info on the crewcab!!! That is EXACTLY what I want to make for a DD for myself except with less lift. What frame did you use? Whats the suspension setup? I dig the bumper. The slider looking things are prety sweet too.

Re: Pic whorin\' (I don\'t do it often)

To make the shortbed work we cut out 17" in the middle of the frame, and another 7" off of the rear of the frame, and spliced it together. The rear suspension is 56" long 4" springs on a 2" block. The front is just standard 6" lift springs. The sliders won't hold the full weight of the truck. They are frame mounted in 3 places. The design was based around small log hits (we travel the AZ mountains in the summer) and to avoid blowing up the saddle bags in the event of getting t-boned. It does have a multi-mount winch for it too. The hardest part was the rear drive shaft. It was too long for a one piece, and almost too short for a two piece. We had a custom 2 piece with a 1330 CV installed. The front sections is even with the frame and the rear section is nearly the same length as my K5 shaft. It really is a nice looking truck. We also swapped in suburban power doors and put in a 6 speaker system. I am hoping we can set up the motor so it can tow my K5 to Moab next year.

Jeff, having the extra crawl gear gives you so much more control it isn't believable. It does make the beginning of the end for the body however. No mater how bound up I was I alway had the ability to spin the tires with the motor below 1200 RPM's. You should make it a point to come down here for a weekend to wheel. I am sure we could easily get a full weekend of wheeling in for you.

Re: Pic whorin\' (I don\'t do it often)

Yeah the crew cab looks bangin! You ever get pulled over with a busted taillight in the K5?

Re: Pic whorin\' (I don\'t do it often)

He just busted them up real bad this weekend. Prior the lenses would fall out but he would ducttape them back in place. Now he has a red cover booty for the taillight bulb so it shows red to be street legal.

P.S. The crew cab looks even better in person. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Pic whorin\' (I don\'t do it often)

wow ur mom's got a sick ride, yours as well to but damn a 454 for a DD.. my wallet cringes at that idea. sweet truck though /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Pic whorin\' (I don\'t do it often)

i thought that /forums/images/graemlins/crewcab.gif looked a little wierd, i don;t think ive ever seen one with a shortbed.

that thing is /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

id still rather have a crewcab with a long bed, wheelbase wheelbase wheelbase.

Re: Pic whorin\' (I don\'t do it often)

The spring/shackle hangers were left in the stock spot so the axle is still below the frame hump. There is about 5 feet of flat strait channel in the crew cab frames and that is where it was cut. We had to do custom mounts for the bed after we removed the 17" from right behind the rear most cab mount. It works well. I would have done it a little different if I had it all to do over again, but it works well and drives strait.

The truck gets around 10 MPG with a very soft foot. I am thinking of eventually doing one for myself but shoving in a Cummins and a 6 speed. That is more of a pipe dream though.
