if i was getting a jeep i would go with the YJ. gotta like the topless

Both look like decent semi-hardcore trail rigs.

Personally the unibody construction of the cherokee makes me leery of them. Idk why jeep did that...

I still dont under stand slinging full width axles under a mid size truck... Its not like either of this jeeps have an axle that isnt available in the correct width.

better gas milage, ac, newer, plusher, more streetable, smaller. Something that my wife will want to be in and that my kid can go in (15mo)

I wouldn't count on much better gas mileage from either, likely low teens (having many years of experience with lifted YJ's, XJ's and TJ's)

both guys claiming 18mpg average highway on these. My truck gets about 11 or so.

Also my truck sees about 50 miles a month because it drives like a floating turd so i dont drive it to work unless i have to

throwing a monkey wrench in...

Wife said she likes both equally. so no help there :haha:
After driving them both for a couple hundred miles that would change. I currently have both styles that I drive regularly. The Cherokee is more family and road friendly, has much more storage space and still can be a capable wheeler.

I think you are going about it the wrong way.
The right way is to get a DD car that gets you 30-35 MPG, for a fraction of what these are going to cost you.
You can get one for anywhere between $700 and $2000.
I have been using my jetta (33mpg) for the last 3 years, and I paid $700 for it, spent $80 for a set of good tires a couple of months ago, other than that oil changes and put gas and go.
You have a capable wheeler, don't buy another wheeler that will get you 20% better fuel mileage according to the seller.
More like maybe 10% better in reality.
:dunno:
Instead, get a Car, and if you break your wheeler, you can still go to work.

this is a replacement for the blazer

Wrangler frames are boxed and love to rot from the inside out. They look great till you accidentally pull a section out with your hand. Always watch out for painted frames. I think any wrangler that old is bad news, but it is in the south.

Id go XJ, but like said I wouldnt count on much better mileage than a full size.

Let it be known that I avidly voiced my opinion against this.
But, a brother is a brother, and ya gotta support 'em...

That said, I voted Cherokee, from a street manner's/family rig standpoint.
I also know just about zero about either Jeep....

The more I look at the pics, the more I think you should get the YJ.
I see yer dilema.

YJ all the way. Get what you want and enjoy it. If I ever own a jeep it will be the YJ style. Just look it over real good.
