You get what you pay for :D

Stay away from the devils store (harbor freight)
the first time in 5 years ive ever had a problem...if my tools didnt come from them i would never work on my rig...i would spend all my money on tools..

Sorry i just hate harbor freight, people that work their are freakin idiots, and there tools are complete junk.

Hopefully, since its new they will swap it out. I've had mine for several years and loaned it to two friends when they were building their trucks. It is still working fine. My biggest complaint is it doesn't lower with enough control. The valve seems to be either open or closed. It also needs more cross bracing. I've thought about welding some onto mine. But if you only use it for lifting it should be fine. I like mine, and for a hundred bucks you can't beat the price.

Same problem with mine, but other than that it works like a champ.

I hate how people always rag on HF...no its obviously not the best stuff but if you're buying tools that you'll use maybe once a month then its not a big deal. Plus like he said above w/o HF some of us would never have $$$ for our rigs ;)

I have some HF stuff...that same exact floor jack, a cherry picker and some jack stands...they all work great besides the fast drop issue everyone has with the floor jack but for what I do its perfect...

If your a mechanic, and rely on your tools as a livelyhood, then it's best not to shop at HF. BUT for the rest of us who occasionaly work on our stuff, they are fine.......we are aware of what we are buying.

x2. Thankfully, we have the introweb these days... so you can ask other peeps about specific tools. Some HF stuff will last a lifetime... other stuff is worthless crap. Just gotta know what to buy and what to avoid.

exactly!! I needed some BIG cressent wrenches for bending steel. snao on would be like 500 bucks probably. I baught 2 big 24 in Pitsburg cressents and they worked great. bent a piece I fabbed up out of 1/4 cold rolled plate.

dizam! I remember you saying before that you used them to bend stuff... 1/4" I wonder if you could do aluminum sheet (truggy panels!) using a couple of those and a couple of pieces of 2" wide / 1/4" sheets of steel...

would bend like butta. :D I bent 1/8 stainless steel 304 about 24 in long using this method, only I used 1/2 in steel plate instead of 1/4 inch. the 1/2 in plate was the same length as the SS. used big "C" clamps to pinch then top and bottom of the SS then a piece of 1/2 clamped on top of the SS to a heavy work bench. worked bitchen.

with aluminum, if its thin enough, and depending what you are bending you can use a regular door jam. I have bent plenty of stuff in a dood jam. it has to be a fairly sturdy jam or it will leverage to hinghes loose or rip them out. try a fromt door, rather then a bedroom door. of course it probably wont be a complete 90 deg bend but it can get you started, then dolly the rest of the way. I have worked sheet metal for years by trial and error, learned some cool home brewed ways to get buy with out the super wazoo fab stuff.

I've used the top of my work bench (2x4) to bend sheet AL. We've got some super cool stuff for bending, joggling, shaping aluminium at work. But for simple bends you don't need much.

aluminum sheet ain't cheap... when I get ready to do my truggies roof and hood, I'm gonna start PMing you guys. I don't wanna **** up a couple of big $pendy $heets figuring it all out!
