I got a great deal on a Hypertherm Powermax 30 today so I bought it. It's dual voltage and very portable. I've been window shopping for plasma cutters for a couple of weeks. It'll make a great addition to the new MM 212 I bought 6 weeks ago. Now, I just need to get some more scraps together and keep learning to weld. My buddy at work said that with the prices of steel, just weld and cut, weld & cut. Fortunately for me I have a spare parts racecar frame out back with a roll cage that I can now cut up for practice material.

I'm thinking this is gonna be a fun summer in my brothers shop. BTW, did I mention he just bought a 80 Gal 240 dual stage compressor for me to use. Yeah, life is good...

Pics man....pics. Good for you. I have been shopping for one too but the one I want is out of my range right now. Im looking at a Thermadyne or Hypertherm that will cut clean 1/2 thick steel. It should severence cut 5/8. I would use it mostly in 1/4 so the extra capacity would help the cut speed.

Thermal Dynamics makes a nice machine, and is mainly due to their style gun. I have the Cutmaster 39 and really enjoy it.

i got the parker metal working 40 amp. i've got to use it a couple times now and it works well. zips through sheetmetal, doesn't care about paint or seam sealer. i got to cut some 1/4" the other day. first cut was freehand (top). came out a little jagged. bottom piece was after i adjusted the power a little. i used a piece of angle iron for a straight edge and slowed down. got a nice clean cut. no way i could afford some of the other machines, many of which can't even cut as thick a piece of metal.

Well, I got the plasma cutter out this week. I needed to cut the top of a strut tower. It worked awesome; however, I realized that even without coffee, I seem to shake like a sumbitch...My cuts were less than clean. So, it looks like I need lots of cutting practice:D I guess it's a good thing there is a race car in the shop that needs to have the entire body cut off:rolleyes:

Botton line: This guys gives the Powermax 30 :waytogo::waytogo:

BTW, this is what I got: http://www.hypertherm.com/languages/english/powermax30.php

The next step is a Plasma Cam table. Too much money for me. These guys are local to me 1 hour drive. I took some brackets i made. 1.5 hours including clean up. They digitized and burned 4 more for me in 15 minutes as a demo. Even cut the bolt hole clean.
