Hey guys,

Pretty excited and wanted to share my new project. I picked up an '87 K5 a week ago that I plan on cleaning up and redoing. It is a 350 with auto, two hard tops, soft top and various other spare parts. Mechanically it is in good shape as the previous owner put in new brake lines, radiator, some steering components and a few other things to keep it in good shape. I've been driving it the past few days and it starts after a couple seconds in the lovely 20 degree weather we've been having. The body is another issue. I'll basically have to rip the whole floor out from the firewall back. It isn't horrible, but looks like some poor temporary patching was attempted. Luckily it came with the 3 pieces for the back floor. I'm planning on selling the soft top to get some funds for the rest of the floor.

I did the pretty much same thing about 10 years ago with an '89 and I ended up trading shortly after I finished. I ended up regretting that and have been looking for a new one lately. They're more expensive than 10 years ago and harder to find. This '87 isn't as bad as my '89 and I jumped on it. One area I noticed a patch that I'm not happy about is the back side of the roof corner. I think that will be tougher patch.

I'll try to update on progress once I start working on it, but that may be a while.

So time is a very limited commodity and I haven't done anything with this truck really. I stripped out the interior and started poking around finding more rust than I expected as always. I'm looking at a tub replacement now. I haven't really been able to find any threads on it easily; anyone know if they're out there?

Second, I found an old military tub in good shape, but painted with CARC I believe. I don't want to keep it that way, I want to go back to the original color in base/clear. I've seen sanding this stuff is near deadly. Are there any other ways to remove it? Can I paint right over it instead if I wanted?

Thanks.
