Pickup Tail Gate Swap to K5

This is good info. I am redoing mine this winter and like the truck tailgate idea. Have the latch on the outside so it doesn't interfer with my tonneau cover and lose some of that weight. Plus I have a mint SS insert for a truck gate and my insert on the blazer has some denting.

Another related question. I've been looking at rollpans and i see the blazer is different than the truck. I'm not sure what is actually different, but I assume something to due with clearancing the hinges/spring assembly? Now if I swap to a truck gate and lose those, is there anything stopping the use of a truck roll pan that anyone can think of?

Definitely look into it further but the obvious reason is that the Blazer/Suburban tailgate hinge below the gate whereas the P/U's hinge on the side.

reversing the swap?

It seems like this thread gets resurrected about once every two years, so I'm doing the deed this time!

Question for those who've done this... Does switching to a truck tailgate prevent you from putting the blazer gate back on later? How much hassle would it be to swap gates every 6 months when I remove/replace the hard top? I can get a gate for free and would love the weight savings and exterior latch if the labor is worth it and swapping doesn't require an irreversible mods.

My first post in over a year? Switching back and forth involves nothing but time and a few bolts. If you have an electric window, I guess you might want to splice in a plug to make it easier. Make sure you keep all your hardware safe though...

Thanks Fireplug!

I think I may just do this! No power window, so no wiring to worry about, although I have moved my license plate up to the tailgate, so I'll have to move that and come up with a solution for lighting it.

Cheers!
