pickup trailer #3 in this build .

well i just like building these things from left over parts .

14ff cut up for the tubes and hubs . remove the brakes and cut the axle shaft off the flange . clean and inspect the bearings and pack in grease . install new seal in hub . use a freeze plug in each spindle hole to keep the grease in the hubs . then a chunk of 4" sch-40 o.d. pipe for the tie together .

then 6.5 feet of 6" C-channel or ox tube gets you a 33 3/4" cross section to tie the frame together . then 2 22" chunks for the 2 sides of the tongue section . then a universal hitch bolt on plate to tie them together . i prefer to just use a 2 5/16" coupler for my builds . i then use a 2k-2.5k jack with the weld on plate option .

were doing 265/75/16 load range E tires . were using stock 4-leaf 52" springs from a project left over job . this is a 2wd c-10 long bed frame .

more to come as i hope to finish this tomorrow . and got to love a high lift jack for clamp work .

well little behind today from a 4" setback problem i didn't realize i had . i got the old 1/2 ton axle and broken spring combo out and went to install the used 52" springs i had from a project and found they were 4" to short for the 1/2 ton 2wd 56" long combo from the factory . i have not seen 56" in half ton 2wd before but not surprised ether . so i got out the cut off wheel and air hammer and popped 12 rivets and moved the rear shackle hangers to the front set of holes and all was good then . i got the axle welded up and she is real close to square for a home brew axle . for what it is it should be fine but we will find out .

still need toolbox mounted up front yet / run the wire down to the back and add the 4 flat plug . a pair of shocks . pop the studs back in the hubs when i get some thick washers to take up the gap of the missing drum so the sit flush on the face like there ment to .

took it for a test pull tonight and tows nice . just need to get 2 new plate light units for the bumper and she will be ready for service .

OH man, I never thought about cutting the pumpkin out of a 14 bolt. I’m wanting to build a trailer for camping, but I also want 8x6.5 so I can match all my wheels together.

Now I need to go look for electric brakes that I can fit in there somehow.

there is a electric hydro pump for trailer brakes just for doing this kind of thing .

i plan on doing this when i redo my big gooseneck flatbed dump trailer . its a super old vac over hydro setup and it will be cheeper to just do the electric pump over the find and rebuild of vac parts .

these crunchy old rims are not working for me . time to get some bling bling rims dug out i have only 2 of and use them on this trailer .

here is the basic end result . just waiting on the 2nd plate light unit to shop up at the parts store in the am and then swap the rims over .

1/2 ton c-10 frame cut at the firewall spot of the frame were its flat . tied together and tongue from 6" c-channel . 2 5/16 coupler bolted to adjustable height weld on plate . 3/8" safety chain and clip on hooks . stock 4 leaf 52" springs 2,150 lbs capacity each . 14ff hubs - spindles - made in to trailer axle and greased hubs . rolling on 265/75/16 load range E tires .

so my buddy wanted to use the trailer and put plywood sides in and tarp over it to load carpet in from the house . i said why do all that lets go buy this cap on c-list local for 100 bucks . so we hitched the trailer up and went and got it for 50 bucks and i only went 25 bucks in and didnt drive or use my fuel . :waytogo:

decent shape few dings and needs a bead of caulk on roof seam . 2 handle rear glass . slider each side rear . already hooked to my truck so i can back it in the shop and clamp it on good and swap the rims on the trailer . tows like a dream nice and smooth just like the other 2 i have built and still have .

well i dug out my 33x12.50x16.5 tires and rims i got a few years ago . there was just 2 so i knew i would use them on a trailer build someday . well they look real good on here but with the wide track width i did the axle i would need fender flairs . so i dug out the 2 other rims that are 16" and i will be swapping over the 265/75/16 tires to them .

here is the end look for wheels with 88-98 style chrome caps and conversion lug nuts to hold them .

trailer #2 white/red got a upgrade this week . he needed a bumper so he got this one after i heated and bent the brackets back in shape . looks a lot better now and more correct .

next step is springs beefed up and a custom made 8 lug trailer axle and brakes on it then the dump insert can live in him for good .

@Bowtiek10

its a push bumper thingy like a police extra front bumper but for the old fisher speedcast plow setups . they did not make a lot of them . they come out near the end of the old style plow setups just before and during the beginning of the minute mount stuff .

fisher plow mate = http://library.fisherplows.com/fisherplows/pdffiles/6399_121691.pdf

its a summer time unit so you dont need to look at the snow plow headgear / lift frame and lights all the off season .

here is a few pics for ya . winter mode and summer mode .
