Guys in our club got together for our annual fall ride down in Slade, KY (Natural Bridge/ Red River Gorge area).

Rattlesnake: Super deep washout that is also going uphill and always filled with snotty mud. First time I've never been able to make it as the rear diff was bottoming out hard. Not stuck, just didn't feel like backing down 100 feet. '90 K5, 6.2/700r4/D60/14-bolt/lockers/39.5" TSL:

78Buford making it through. Larger tires and the wheelbase really helps. '78 F-250, built 460/C6/205/D60/D70/lockers/42" TSL.

Carburetor Hill: rock step climb running up the middle of a ridge. Maybe 25' wide but straight drop-offs on each side and it's a long way down so there is some pucker factor. First time I have ever ran it dry as it's usually covered in wet gritty soil and leaves, and the tires are plugged with mud.

Jacob's Ladder: cool rock step hill climb. This is about a '95 YJ with Dynatrac D60's/spools/5.13s, Atlas 4-speed/NV4500/stock 4.0L, 37" Boggers

Same place as above: "used-to-be-a-Samurai", stretched to around 100" WB, healthy 302/C6/D300/Toy axles/ 35" tires. The Sami in the background has a 4.3 Vortec/TH350/203-D300 doubler/Toy axles/36" TSL

FYI: most of the below is private land and owner was our trailguide.

Attention Getter: fairly steep straight hill that's not too hard until you get right to the top and there is this rock to climb.

This is the 302-powered Sami after we pushed him off his top, but had to use a winch to pull it back on the wheels. A big dent on the hood along with broken hood latches were the only casualty.

78Buford, made it first try. 42's at 5 psi and a lot of wheel speed was the ticket. Only other rig to try was the green YJ above which wound up being pulled over the top.

Obstacle called Hairpin. Starts with this ledge climb then makes a 90 degree plus turn to the left.

Upper section after the sharp turn. That's a solid rock wall on the left with a 2' wide by 1' deep rock "ditch" running along the side. If you drop both driver's side tires in this ditch you are basically guaranteed serious body damage. My steering box started leaking really bad and I lost power assist. Decided to winch to get out of the way. Turned out the top cap was loose, probably from when I removed it to tap it for hydro-assist.

Who needs a flexy suspension, just get an articulating frame.

He drove out of this unassisted:
