Pics of my sliders.

Now that's an interesting idea! I might beef mine up a bit. I have 1.75" tube, so I'll have to see about getting a short length of something larger. Maybe, for this application, some 1.75" pipe would be good?

No, just HREW. After last weekend's wheeling, I need to re-do the passenger side round-tube part, and I need to gusset the tubes. I bent it. The sliders and mounts, however, are holding up great, with FAR more use than I would like for them to see.

How do you think they wouldve fared if you did it the way I did, with the extra bushing support to the frame? I guess it depends on how you took the hits. If it was directly to the SIDE, I would think the frame support would work well, if it was coming DOWN on a rock, Im not sure, size the frame support is to give up and down movement.

I didn't sustain any damage to the way that I've mounted the slider, so the way you've mounted yours is relatively inconsequential at this point. However, I am going to add mounts like you have, because I believe that over time they will prevent damage to the mounting holes. So, all that to say that I think your method is a necessary component of adequate sliders intended for long-term use.

But, the damage I received was to the round tube that sticks off the side of the slider to keep my doors out of the rocks. They did their job, but the passenger side one is now shaped a bit like the DPI sliders, rather than being just parallel to the rectangular tube. :wink1:

I know. I was just wondering if it could double as a step. My ol lady is 5'4" after she stretches and puts shoes on. So, when I build my sliders I need them to double as a step. And Im trying to decide between 2x6 or 2x4 tubing. If 2x4 works, it can save me a little weight and cash. 2x6 aint cheap.

My wife appreciates the steps, but my 2 year old can't even reach that high. My 5 year old can climb in using the tube and the seat base.

Off road they work great as sliders, but not as steps. They fill up with mud so you have to step on the tube and risk slipping or jump over the step.

Those would work well out here for us guys that dont see much mud. :waytogo: i still like the 2x6 idea. Purely for the strength and simplicity.

For support I just welded in some of the round tubing.

Yes, that's an option I considered, but didn't do because I didn't figure I'd really need them. I didn't realize that making sliders would make me a bolder driver. :doah: But it's not exactly something you can do after the fact, once the round tubes are already in. So, I'm thinking plate w/ gussets.

Blue85...did you make your own mounting brackets or did you order them from somebody like DIY4X?

Colby....looks good :waytogo:.

They look like chopped-down angle iron w/ holes drilled in them to me.

I'm diggin those... Might have to build a set for the K10...

Yes, the brackets are just angle iron. If you remember a guy named echobit...
These were the prototype for a slider he would sell off his site. He worked with me to add the "bow" and step from a more traditional design. I think he only built maybe 1 more set like this? Since then I shortened them when I cut the fenders and moved the brackets to slide them back.
