I was wondering if anyone could take a pic of where the steering box adjuster is located on a 2wd box. I had someone move my steering wheel so I could tell where the excess play was and found that my pitman arm is going to need to be changed out but its not bad yet but there is a lot of movement where the steering shaft hooks to the box but not much where the pitman arm attach's to the bottom of the box (I know/am sure its not supposed to be equal but seems like its more then it should be). Several people told me it on top of the box but I'm not seeing it (I could be looking in the wrong spot as well) and in the Haynes manual I have it shows the location for a manual box but not for power steer.

BTW I did search this and didn't see any pics for reference. any help I can get is appreciated

Do not touch the box adjuster . This is covered periodically and its an old wives tail that it actually really helps . The adjuster is for bearing preload . Tighten it and the steering wheel may not return to center ...I.E it will want to stay where you turn it and you will have to turn it back yourself .

ok any ideas aside from replacing the box to remove some of the free play out of the steering then

definately need to do it off the vehicle, with no fluid in it, and adjust the preload first. theres some pics here somewhere scanned from a factory manual that tell exactly how to do it. done it to mine, works perfect now.
