pic\'s of tire+rim and a question about theft

I run these late 70's-80's factory ralley rims on my 71 Blazer.Last week someone stole all 4 of the stainless trim rings.I couldn't find any locally(Santa Barbara,Ca area)but had to drive 1/2 hr to Ventura to see if I could find any there.Looked through all the j-yards to no evaile untill the last yard.I was able to find 3 good ones and a 4th at a hub cap store(that one cost as much as the other 3).
Anyway,my question is since the new trim rings were kinda hard to find,I don't want someone else walking off with this set too.Does anyone know of a method to attach the trim rings to the rims. Thanks

Re: pic\'s of tire+rim and a question about theft

I've seen hub cap theft prevention devices in the past. They looked like a small cable that you had to fasten to the hub cap and then one end had a ring that went under a lug nut. This would probably look a bit tacky with just trim rings.

I always wonder what would happen if you hit a big pothole or something and popped the hub cap off the rim. Seems that the cable would just whip it around into the fender, destroying not only the hub cap but also your fender...

Re: pic\'s of tire+rim and a question about theft

I had the same problem on a 1st gen camaro a few years back. i used safety wire on the trim ring "clips". throw about an 10" piece on about 6 of your clips symetrically around the ring. install the rings, flip the tire over, and twist up the wire around the "spokes" through the holes in your rim on the backside. the wire isn't all that noticable, and has about the same impact as "the club". if someone wants them bad enough, they're gonna get em, but at least its a deterent. might as well make em work for it!! hope it helps.

SCREW EM!!yeah screw em on.drill holes around the edge into the rim and SCREW EM!like drag racers used to do.added bonus would be the tires will be less likely to spin on the rim at low air pressures.that is a nice clean look too,BTW.i like it.

Solder razors on the back side of the ring. They will never bother taking them again..... especialy(sp?) without theyre fingure tips.

Don't know of anyway of locking them onto the wheel. After losing a couple of mine and replacing them just to lost them again while riding, I went with aftermarket wheels. Plus the new wheels are easier to clean after a good mud ride.

I painted my ralley rims to match my truck like you did, I just never put the trim rings back on. I'd think about painting yours again to get rid of the scratches that the trim rings put on them and try it without the rings, I think it looks cool! Just my .02 cents.

ya, I have seen the things HArry is talking about. Those would work unless the theft has wire cutters in his pocket! :)

NO, I think it hs been around for a while... Try JC whitney or Hub cap Mfgs, they maybe able to lead you in the right direction.

Re: pic\'s of tire+rim and a question about theft

I've thought of the running small wire cable from the ring to the rim and attaching in behind the rim but as stated a pair of wire cutters would make quick work of that. Also thought of screwing them into the rim like bead lockers, but I'm not too keen on that idea. The razor blade thing is pretty funny...I liked that one.A buddy did that to his car stereo,he had fish hooks and razor blades on it.Got tiered of his tunes getting ripped off.I've also seen the wire things that attach to the lug bolts but those are basically for center caps aren't they?I was thinking of tacking on some small nuts onto the rim and then going through the trim ring with some stainless fasteners then attach the fasteners to the nuts that are tacked to the rim.Might work, what do you think?
