i have been searching on and off now for 6 months to try to find a set of the wheels that accept dog dish hub caps. could someone give me a close up pic of the wheel

Thanks

Check out this thread. You can see the 15x8s I'm currently running in the picture of the yellow Blazer. I bought my rims off that guy, they used to be black before I restored them.

Here's a picture I just took of my stock 15x6s (the ones that came on the truck). These rims will accept the stock dog dish cap. Those "ears" (red arrows) are what holds the center cap on. My 15x8s look indentical to this but are just deeper that's all.

Some rims looks similar to this rim but don't have the "ears". Those rims are usually made to accept a center cap that snaps into the rim and will not accept a stock Chevy truck dog dish. "Smoothie" type rims from Wheel Vintiques are an example of that style wheel.

The "Gennie" style wheel from Wheel Vintiques would be the wheel we would want but unfortunately it's not available in the 6-lug pattern.

thanks man:waytogo:

what seems to be the problem is finding the rim

the hubcaps are a dime a dozen.
theres a guy about two block down from me that has a set.:doah: i might knock on his door and see if he will sell them.

Those white line tires you are looking at in that picture above were bought and installed in 1975 (I have the receipt!)...:D

They're Michelins.

i was probaly just going to get a set and do some cutting.

Yes those hubcaps in the lower right corner directly under the text "Or Buy A New Set" will snap right on to my rims.

I have had the hubcaps that are on my Blazer now for about 9 years. I had those same caps on my previous '75 Blazer I owned back in 1998. I scavenged them off trucks in junkyards. Here's a pic of me in my old Blazer. Same caps I'm running right now. And those caps mount the same exact way as the ones you found in that catalog. The ones in the catalog are just the newer version. My caps were made from '69-'75. The newer style came out in '76 and ran up through '88.

do you think it would work to buy a set for the rear and hack out the center?(cant seem to find ones for the front)

I assume you're talking about the older style (like mine). Yeah if you did it carefully it would be simple. I have two extras I keep for spares in case one pops off and is lost. I'd cut it out if I had to. Wouldn't be a big deal and would look just as good.

But you can't do that with the newer style. The newer open cap has a nose on it that the rear closed cap doesn't, so it may look funny if you cut it.

But in that catalog for the newer style they do sell the open cap for the front. And your truck being a '78 would have used that style cap. It's a shallower cap than mine and if you can find a set of 15x8s that will take it it looks really good.

thanks for all the help craig

for looks id use the same style you have.even if its the wrong year

No prob I'm off to bed now. Take'er easy.

Yeah I like the older cap better too. Even if I had a '91 Blazer I'd still run it :waytogo:

If worse comes to worse and you can't find that elusive 15x8 rim, you can pay Stockton Wheel to make them for you at $150 each. That's what I was going to do until I stumbled across the stock ones I have now...

Psssst :deal: found these on eBay!
