just got my new IR 2135ti max impact gun. Whats the pro or con of using the pin retainer style anvil "the one with small pin on end"? Seems like it would hold sockets better, I bought the kind shown below. Anyone have experience with either kind?

This style will wear out , but is easily replaceable.

The pin style ones hold better, but they also piss you off, because you have to have an O-ring pic or something to get the socket back off.

Actually, the one with the ball on the end is not the pin type.
The pin type actually has a pin that you put through the socket and anvil and hold on with a rubber band.

They are really nice if you are working on a tall building or over water, but the socket is not going to fall off.

But it takes longer to swap sockets.
My Milwaukee impact had the ball type. It was well greased, but it was a huge pain to get a socket off.

One day the ball fell out, and I never looked back. I drop a socket every so often, but its so much nicer to change them, I have never tried to fix it.

The style in your pictures is probably the best compromise.

That ring around the end, is it steel? I seem to break those all the time. Now my sockets just fall off. Before they were stuck on though. Sometimes it took some prying to get the socket off.

There are some with a ball on the end, like a Snap On ratchet, and there are some with a pin on the end. I have seen electric impacts that have both the ball on one side, and on the opposite side the pin.

Yes it is, and yes they wear out. They are replaceable though. Get on the tool truck, and they will sell you a bag of 5 or 6 of them for a couple dollars. That, or if you do enough business on a truck, they will give them to you for free a lot of the time. There is also a rubber o-ring underneath it.

Come to think of it my electric impact has a pin, and yes it is a pain. Just got home from work, shouldn't think when I'm tired. Never had experience with the type I bought, "shown above", will give it a try see how it works.:D, found the retainer ring and rubber for $1.67 online if it ever wears out..

i dont care for pin much.

i have used clip style like you have for years. other than 1 mabye 2 new a year as it was a heavy use gun i love them.

like said before. grab a service bag of 5-6 clips/orings. then its a easy swap out when shot. :thumb:

fyi that gun is easy to take apart and remove the muffler baffle pads. . . .
