Ok, I need to replace the pinion seal in my d44 and want to do it the correct way. (replacing the crush collar) I know I need to measure pre-load before the pinion is taken out. Now my question is can I use a torque wrench like this:

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...group_ID=19918&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

I'm wondering because it updates on the screen, but not sure if it is accurate enough, or fast enough. I don't do a lot of Differential work at my job, and don't want to buy a tool that I wont be using often. I guess if I absolutely have to ill have to add a 4th torque wrench to the box.

thanks
Shawn

D44 front doesn't use a crush sleeve. Just remove the Yoke, replace the seal and then tighten the Yoke nut to 210 ft/lbs.

I read his post fast and thought he was asking about a 14 bolt. :haha:
Danas still need proper preload with new bearings.

Thought I read somewhere that when replacing the seal, The crush sleeve needed to be replaced in order to set preload. maybe I miss clicked or something.

Thanks
Shawn

Almost all Dana axles use shims for bearing preload and GM 10, 12, 14 use crush sleeves.

Awesome. Ive never had to do anything in depth on a differential or even a pinion seal. Guess I shouldn't listen to some of the people around my area haha. Maybe the guy I was talking to thought I had a 10b cause it was in my blazer at the time. Oh well.

Thanks again for the clarification.
Shawn
