I'm needing to replace some ujoints and I'm told that my front pinion bearing on my rear axle (10 bolt) needs to be replaced. How straight forward is this. What I've been told is to drop the drive shaft, take the nut off the yoke, pull the yoke and I should be able to take the bearing out from there, is this right? Also when I go to replace it the bearing, what parts do I need to buy, the bearing, spacer, what else? thanks

You need to pull the shafts, remove the carrier (there are shims on each side of the carrier, don't mix them up), then remove the pinion nut, yoke and tap the pinion through the diff. Then you can remove the pinion seal the the two pinion bearings. Then tap the two pinion bearing races out of the diff.

Install new pinion bearings and races (you'll need a press for the lower pinion bearing, make sure to reinstall the pinion shims that are under the old pinion bearing). Install new crush sleeve, yoke, seal and new pinion nut. You'll need to crush the crush sleeve at this point and set the pinion bearing preload (you'll need a torque wrench that read inch lbs.), I don't remember the spec for a 10 bolt but its around 15 in. lbs. Then reinstall everything else just like it came out.
