Pinion removal ?

the outer pinion bearing is a press fit. so you have to drive the pinion shaft out of the bearing. i usually use an air hammer with a pointed bit.
but a bfh works if you dont care about the gear. or screw the nut on and hit the nut

Don't hit the pinion with a hammer, you'll smash the threads on the pinion and you won't be able to get a new nut on there.

There is a little cup in the end of the pinion, put a punch in there and hit it with a hammer. As mentioned, the upper pinion bearing is pressed on there so it take a little doing to get it out.

I like to find a piece of tubing that fits OVER the threaded portion of the pinion then rests on the flat surface where the splines are then you can hit it as hard as you like with a BFH and not damage anything.
