I nead a pinion seal for my 10 bolt front. Are all 10 bolt seals the same?

The parts person at napa said there is two diferent ones, one for spicer and one that is not.:dunno:

I thought all 10 bolts 3/4 and 1/2 to are the same.

Figured I`d ask the experts.

The spicer one is probably the part number for dana-spicer 44 front axle. The 10 bolt would be the other one. See if the same part number comes up for an 1987 front pinion seal. The parts store guy won't know what a 10 bolt is, its called an 8.5 axle in the gm books. 8.5 pinion seals are the same.

if crush sleave style inside for pinion bearing preload DONT over tighten it. lot of messed up stuff with this around here latly.

Good tip...and that would be my next question.

What should I tork the pinion nut to when I`m done?

No problem dude...I`ll just use my 3/4 inch air gun and rattle it on till it stops moving, that sound right.:haha:

Oneton, you got it right, phoned in and told them what you said, they found me the right one. But they what 42.00 bucks for it.:eek1:

It`s gonna leak on my floor just alittle longer.:D

That's the way to screw it up, search on pinion seal replacement this gets talked about every couple weeks at least.

Check Rock Auto for your seals, $40 is ridiculous.

I bought a D60 pinion seal (a spicer seal too) for like $4 recently

Try your local truck/equipment/driveline shop. I am good friends with the manager at mine and I get killer deals on all my bearings, ujoints, etc that way. I always show up at 4 on a Friday with beer and taco bell and they let me use their sandblaster and everything lol.

I was just kidding around.:D
And yeah 40.00 is a joke.:doah:

Found one at BC Bearing in Reddeer, under 20.00.:D
It`s a National seal # 8622
Turns out the guy is freinds with my brother in law and said he would give me an even better deal than that.:woot:

I know it still sounds pricey for you guys, but in Canada we always get it up the a**.:eek1:

No sh#t eh! Exhaust for my duramax 250 to 400 in the states, the cheapest crap here is 500.00 plus. Sucks

I can see 20.00 for a seal thats around what I`ve always payed, but double..come on. Go screw your self.

I`d like to buy more from the states, but shiping is a killer.
And I live 4 hours away from the border. OH Well, just have to pay more.

You should replace the crush sleve. You should check the pinion before you take the yoke off. It should be in inch pounds. Then put it back the same. Probably somewhere between 40 and 25 inch pounds. This will keep you from burning up something.

"You need a torque wrench that reads inch pounds (to measure pinion bearing preload)"
