So I spun my #2 rod bearing and scarred the crank up pretty good at BB in Moab this year. I have another motor out of suburban sitting here ready to go. I was thinking it might be faster to swap the crank and #2 rod out instead of the heads, intake and cam. I was just wandering if I can remove and replace the piston form the bottom to replace the rod, or can you only install a piston form the top? Also the sub motor is a 2 bolt main, while my old motor is a 4 bolt. Thanks

Unless you are making a lot of extra HP, 2 or 4 bolt main isn't going to matter. I would not try just dropping the crank and piston/rod out of one into the other. You are asking for trouble without getting the old block checked out. The main or rod journal could be slightly out of round.

Never heard of anyone putting in pistons from the bottom. I don't think the ring compressor will fit

Thanks, I'm new to the internal engine stuff, so I wasn't really sure what the best route would be. Guess I will be just switching heads, intake and cam.

The piston/rod have to come out the top. Theres the main webbing that blocks it from coming out the bottom.

I would be surprised if you could get the crank out, without removing all the piston/con rods first and not destroy a bunch of stuff.
