pitman arm boot EDIT: Sector Shaft Seal? SEE page 2

Oh and if your pump is whining, check your fluid. If the fluid level is fine, then there may be something wrong with your pump.

yeah, I've tried using a hammer and small screwdriver, and it just barely won't snap in.. its so close... Yeah, its not leaking out of the sector shaft seal now, and I think the fact that its finally holding good pressure sent all the pressure to my next weakest link.. the ps pump  kaboom........ Also I'm trying to struggle with this snap ring with the pitman arm installed, because it popped out after I had put the pitman arm back on the shaft..

If I tightened my nut that attaches my drag link end to my pitman arm down too tight, would that cause alot of stress on the power steering system? Can that nut be tightened down so much that the drag link end no longer wants to pivot freely?

Nope, can't happen. Tightening the nut draws tension between the tapers. It could be torqued to the breaking point and it wouldn't affect the ball/socket joint of the DLE below it.

Well, that's encouraging to hear. And the splines on the pitman arm look like they'll only go on there one way.. So really there's no wrong way to put it back together. So I'm guessing my ps pump is putting up a fuss because its not used to the steering box holding actual pressure. Even after priming the ps pump, it just seems like it whines, leaks, and has frothy fluid.

I still gotta force that stupid snap ring into its hole

I just thought of something..........

You're supposed to prime the ps system with the cap off the resevoir aren't you :doah: Maybe that's why the pump was whining and the fluid was foaming when I tried to prime it, I put the cap back on :o
