So, i'm throwing a reman steering box on the burb next week.

CA truck, but a fair bit of time in the snow.

If i was to have a good pitman arm puller on hand in case of failure, what one would i get?

Lots of different styles, no idea which one i should buy.

Thanks!

I've never had to use one on a 4x4. They aren't a taper fit like 2wd.

not true .

if crossover steering then yes .

and also 88-up newer body style all went tapper spline shaft and need a puller.

but if he is talking 91-older square body and still push pull box then no he don't need one.

there all mostly china / overseas quality stuff. just pick one.

They break fairly easy it seems, mostly due to poor quality steel, and lack of proper use...my friend has destroyed many pitman arm pullers,he thinks all you need to do is clamp one on,and whale on it with an air impact gun...sometimes that works, but I find it better to torque it on there good, then bash the bolt with a hammer,or hit it with an air chisel..

I have seen some pitman arms "fuse" to the steering box shaft and have to be cut off ,some newer trucks..like they were way over-torqued at the factory,or rust welded them together...

I use my pitman arm puller to remove drag link ends,it fits them perfect...much better than bashing the steering knuckle to death till the taper breaks free..

He has a 91 suburban with stock push pull steering. :waytogo:

So no puller should be needed.

Also, it is true that any truck that came with the stock push pull steering does not have a taper fit sector shaft. Hence the need for the pinch bolt on the pitman arm. Pull the pinch bolt out and they are usually floppy free just like that.

Rad. Thanks.
