Ok let me preface this my saying I am a total noob at this. Majority of the big stuff (lift and engine) may take place in MN so I can get my cousin to help my with the more technical stuff, but other wise most it I plan on doing my self. I bought this burban (Beast) to learn how to be more self sufficient on vehicles. So far my plans are stripping the crappy carpet and having it lineXed with the Xtra to help with the noise, a couple of rust spots need to be addressed, paint, muffler, 33" tires and probably some other odds and ends that I am forgetting.

My goals for Beast is to make him a DD (selling my 09 fusion once I get the big stuff done) and to make him uber reliable and for the occasional tow rig/ slight off road...gotta have fun while I am station in CO. Beast is a 1987 Burban Silverado 1500 currently with 31s on it.

I am also entertaining the thought of running duel fuel (propane). I have been scouring these forums and the amount of information is overwhelming.

I am currently deployed to Afghanistan so the actual building will have to wait until I am back. Mainly I am looking for information on where to start this build and sources of parts and anything else you guys can think of with out breaking the bank. Everybody at work makes fun of me for driving the Beast but I love this truck and reminds me of when I was younger hunting in MN.

So the all knowing people of CK5 please edumacate me. :D

Oh BTW I traded this for a dirtbike.

Id check the steering, ball joints, and bearings first, see if stuffs got any slop.

Then I like to go through and check all fluids, engine oil/coolant/power steering/tranny/tcase/differentials, check rubber lines for cracks, radiators for oxidation, check metal lines for rust etc...

Replace what needs replacing, then it really comes down to drive it till something doesn't work and or breaks. And then replace and or upgrade. :waytogo:

Those make great versatile vehicles. I would follow Duelings advice and cover the basics to make sure the vehicle is sound as well as educate you on the sytems and maintenance requirements. The modification list can grow with your needs, income and confidence levels. Have fun!

When I bought it I replaced all the fluids and check belts and tires, the basic stuff that you look for when PMCSing a military vehicle. I should be back before the 4th of july. I was really hoping to be able to rock no carpet....I have a tendency to spill things in my vehicles and it sure would be nice to be able to spray it out.

Thank you for all your advise.

Dirt wondering if Location: Mo/ Co means Montrose Colorado but thinking it means Missouri / Colorado

Any way as said when you get back from the sand box post pics. I am in Ouray Colorado and building a copy of the Dante's Peak Suburban (Big Red). Great area to wheel and I extend a open welcome to come visit and enjoy. I live on a good sized wooded property and lots of rustic camp area.
