Since we're all still coming off the fun of this year, I wanted to throw out up update and some info on next year's event.

The big change for next year will be permitting through the BLM. As I think many of you know, we have been skirting the edge of needing to get a permit from the BLM to hold the event. The rig cut off has been 50 for the past few years and we are always right at that number. Well they are changing the cutoff to 25 and there's no chance we can fudge that limit.

There are going to be some good things and some bad things associated with getting a permit. The biggest down side will be cost; we are going to have to charge a registration fee. At this point I know for certain the permit will cost each vehicle $15 minimum. In addition to the permit we will be required to have insurance for the event and that's the big question mark. I'm estimating it may cost each person an additional $20-25. The insurance is only to cover spectators, not participants and their vehicles. Just so it's clear, we're still not going to use the event to make money. I will charge no more that what's necessary to cover our costs

The upside is that we will be completely legit. This means we can safely provide some of the fun stuff like event t-shirts and more event stickers and some other similar stuff. In the past we have kept this stuff to a minimum in an effort not to draw too much attention to the event. In an effort to grow the event we plan to offer a few more things we haven't before.

The BLM tries not to have more than one event on a weekend, so it's looking like using the same weekend next year will be the best option. So the tentative dates for next year will be Sept 18-20.

kgblazer has pointed out to me that there's a bicycle event in town that same weekend - as there was this year too. I would say that once I can tell you those dates are firm, the sooner we can get reservations made the better. For example we're going to try and get the normal park for BB09, so we'll be reserving that as soon as possible.

Standby for more info.

Also, I'll be looking again for any trail leader volunteers, so please don't be shy. FYI, I don't even require that you've run the trail before, just that you are willing to be the person responsible for way finding and making sure everyone is taken care of and gets off the trail. The last 2yrs I've led 4 trails unfamiliar to me and we did just fine.

Well, apparently, I can get us lost and back out with the best of them...:D

just let me know the costs as soon as you can scott as I am sure you will do for everyone. But Just so you know. No matter what I am in. I will... Our club will help where we can and with what we can.

I also think that we should try and get a better deal on the Hotel. If all the people who stayed in a Hotel this year all stayed in one hotel we would have had a whole bunch there. The $80 was a good deal $60-70 would be awesome, nothing like a pool good breakfast and A/C to rest the body :D.

I liked the park that we used this year other then walking across the street it was fine kids had a closer place to play and it was closer in town.

yep i may be changing where i stay after this year bs thats if i even try to go

I know for a fact the camper is staying home next year . After getting someone to tow it , and towing my truggy , I think a Hotel/Cabin and a single trailer would be a good thing , and cheaper .

One things for sure Keith if we filled up the Aarchway we wouldn't have to worry about any wedding parties!

Scott even though I will be in a different rig I would lead one of the bunny trails. For my own interest I would like to do one of the all day excursions over around Canyon Lands. Some thing like Michael (JMS) mentioned earlier.

I'd like to hear more opinions on the parks; at this point it's still open.

I'll see what we can do on the hotel. The normal rate on those rooms is $119, so $80 is more than 30% off. In order to get down to $60-70, we'll probably have to start with a lower quality hotel. Another aspect is that we try to get a hotel near the Slickrock campground so it's easier for the campers and hotelers to get together. We've also been burned in the past setting aside a block of rooms at a discount rate and then have the rooms not used. So it's all kind of a touchy deal, but we'll get the best deal we can.

There are nicer camp grounds out there as well.

I was really happy with the Moab Valley inn the year we all stayed there. A bit more $$ but a lot nicer hotel than the Motel 6.

I haven't stayed in the arch way so I have no clue what it's like.

I am sure that Scott will work with the Moab connection and get us someplace that really works well.

One year I held a block of rooms with my credit card; someone canceled but didn't notify the motel, and I got charged; the issue was resolved shortly afterwards, but nevertheless...

Motel 6 is barebones accommodations; I don't like being short on (old ) towels when I'm paying $90+ (that's including tax), and the free coffee could use shot in the arm...and the 'free' WiFi has got to be the weakest signal known to mankind, it only works in the lobby, and it is s l o o o w... forget uploading pictures. On a side note, the Cruiser guys always have a 'Live from Moab...' thread and it usually creates quite a buzz on their website...

The Holiday Inn was really nice at some $125  last May.

The good thing about Moab Valley Inn is that the Brewery is right across the street. Of course, it's far away from Slickrock campground.

Yeah I'm defiantly not advocating holding a block of rooms on anybodys card.

I guess maybe more concrete plans sooner and more advertisement of it.

I won't stay in Motel 6 for all the reasons listed here and before, but yet its still on the site as the official hotel when it really wasn't

We for sure need to get the Blazer Bash site back up and running for 09'.

I guess my only thing is lets make sure that all the plans for 09 are done months in advance and it gets tons of planning.

the way the Archway Inn is set up having the BBQ there would not be a bad idea plenty of parking and seats and a pool, bathrooms and a hot tub.

Steve Fox bailed on setting up Blazer Bash a couple months ago, the BB site is his.

Scott (mrk5) was the man in charge of organizing everything this year. I believe he chose not to setup an official Blazer Bash site to avoid the insurance and BLM permit stuff; basically we were all just a bunch of guys wheelin' in Moab on the same weekend and not *officially* together as a group. Having an official site could have caused some issues.

Sounds like next year we will register with the BLM and do the insurance thing so I'm sure there will be an official site like there has been in years past.

This year's planning was a little crazy with the torch being passed and all but I think Scott did a great job and this was my favorite Blazer Bash so far :pimp:

Yes I agree Scott did very well with what time he had to work with. I just want to make sure that the powers at be make the decisions now for next year so that we don't have the same issues that we had this year, next year.

I really liked the new park we used this year. It was smaller but the bathrooms were closer and it was awesome to have the whole park to ourselves. Sure we had to cross the street etc. but... who cares.

I liked the new park, but methinks it's maybe a little on the smallish side?
It looked to be at capacity for us this time?
