can anyone tell me where to find hard paper plans to fabricate good off road bumpers for a blazer or gmc jimmy body style, thanks

It would probably cost more for the steel than its worth when you price one already built.

Not hardly, if a person has any kind of fabrication skills (and tools) a bumper can be made for about 1/4 the cost of buying one done.

What style bumper are you looking to make

Agreed, Style is dictated by use. The one I built is based on approach angle, front quarter panel protection, and room for a hidden winch. Its based on what you want; just fender bender/wild life protection or something designed to protect the front end while out on the rocks.

Also having sufficient tools and equipment helps speed things up :D

this sure is a nice one.........

pure fact :waytogo:, mine only cost me about $120 in materials, my rock sliders were even cheaper, and as an added bonus the bumper turns out the way YOU wanted it to look like.

Every place I check want a but load for what they got(fab shops). If I get some from a steel yard I have to get a whole sheet.Ive thought about it for the front to give me smashing abilities but for that design I like would be difficult bending the steel plus cutting thick steel takes forever for me with what cutting tools I have.My brother got a nice heavy duty used one with a winch mount for $100 and all that was needed was bolt it on.

All bumpers should be rated in terms of ''smashing ability'' im going to tell warn to start including that with each bumper NAO!!! :haha::haha:

Seriously though, with some creativity you dont need a tubing bender you can use square tubing and make a bumper just as good as that one. You can get a good bumper USED for about the same cost of metal normally but how often do you see someone selling a bumper on CL for your truck that fits your needs perfectly. Not to mention its nicer to be able to say ''i built that''

I was lucky enough to find one used and local. A DIY4X bumper too. :D
Paid $250 for it.

Wouldn't have been able to afford one otherwise. Was thinking about building my own till I found this one.

:D...Never know when the road rage is gonna kick in...Needs to be teflon coated SS as well for easy paint transfer removal..

if any one has a bumper that would fit my 79 GMC jimmy or chevy blazer just take a front picture of your truck and then edit it and put in dimentions, that would be very helpful. thanks everyone for all your effort. i would like to copie someones great ideas.

I have a question about these stinger style bympers.
I understand they would help if you are about to tip over forwards.
But how are they on a straight on collision?

I imagine that the stinger could act as a big lever arm and rip the mounts from the frame...

I'm not thrashing your design here Ryoken, just wondering.
