I picked up a pair of Jegs/RCI style seats. I'm curious how members have mounted similar in their K5's. Pictures would be great. Yes, I know they are uncomfortable but I don't have $ for padded suspension seats right now and really want to have a 4 or 5 point harness.

those are what I use. i don't think they're uncomfortable - they don't bother me at all. my wife doesn't like them though. i just bolted them to my cage.

the only thing i don't like about them is how cold they get, or how hot they are if they sit in the sun. they might make me a bit uncomfortable after a 5 hour road trip, but the lower back support is great!

Do you have any Pics? I'm looking for ideas to mount up mine. I got mine from summit

mine are actually the summit seats too. I don't think I have any pics on hand, but i could go snap a couple if you really want them. It's pretty straight forward. I just used some angle iron, drilled holes for the bolts to go through. Then I notched the angle iron so that it would sit over the top of the tubes nicely and welded it in. :)

this pic doesn't really help, i suppose:

the angle iron sits on top of the tubes that go across the body. you can see the angle iron flush up against the seat on the passenger seat.

Ohh thoose are the nice thick ones, i had ones mede of fiberglass and thoose broke right away

ColbyStephens: The shoulder belts should be mounted at or just slightly below shoulder level else the spine will compress on impact. The belt manufacturers have some good documentation on this.

maybe this one helps a bit more:

Not sure i've ever seen your interior colby, looks good. Surprised you find those comfortable though, don't look to comfy.

And what good is an "empty" center console? I think you are missing the point, you are supposed to put stuff in there :haha:

Can you elaborate on this? I don't quite understand how that is possible in a belt that doesn't self-tighten. the holes in the seat which the belts pass through are at shoulder level, so it seems to my uneducated mind that this would act in the same way as mounting the belts at shoulder height. I'm happy to move them to a safer location if it is necessary.

Thanks for the heads up! ;)

My center console is empty all the time anyway! I did a terrible job of constructing it, so the lid is all warped and hard to use. As a result, it's a glorified arm rest at this point! :D I've been thinking more and more about constructing a new one. :D

"If the upper attachment point falls significantly below the driver’s shoulder, then a spinal compression injury is likely to occur. In an accident, the shoulder belts pull down and back on the torso as they resist the forward motion of the driver. The resultant restraint force compresses the spinal column and will add to the stresses in the spine already caused by the force of the crash impact."

It looks like if you move the mounting point to the bar behind your seat headrest you will be close. Perhaps 2-3" higher than the current bar placement would give you level or a few degrees down.

can't see your image right now - gotta re-up my membership. :) But thanks for the links!

I used to run them in my old CJ7. Just set them up so they are in the right position and they are pretty comfortable. I would run all day and never have a problem.

Plus the wash up real easy.

Also, they make nice covers for them that have a small amount of cushion if you want.

Conversations on these seats always make me thing of this post.
