Played in the snow, got a ticket

i was threatened with a ticket for not having a rear bumper in my 1982 C10. for a long time Chevy trucks didnt come with rear bumpers as factory standard parts, they were an option. i made this known to the officer, and was let off.

False. I have stated numerous times that officers DON'T know the law as well as they think in most cases (here's a prime example). That doesn't mean that they don't have a responsibility to know and understand the law so that they can enforce it.

Ah yes, the ever famous and patented by you backpeddle defense. You'd make a successful musician cause you are so great and changing your tune to fit an audience, in this case you.

Now if you really feel the need to drink from Uncle Bubba's vat of fine Kool-Aid, I'll gladly post the screenshot of the post you made on 5/2/2003 at 0103 hours or I'll just quote you "Police officers don't necessarily know the law, although it seems that many think they do."

Precisely. That doesn't relieve their responsibility to learn. That just means they're know it all wankers, which is generally fact.

I'm sure you're aware how many stupid cases the DA throws out.

Goood gawd, do you plan on running for president some day? You use the same damn tactic a recent ex-president used quite extensively. Your claim to fame of having extensive knowledge of anything and everything is one of the world's greatest myths. It's flat out hilarity ensuing reading your posts because of the ignorance they contain. It's even funnier when you get called on what you say and I cannot recall one time that you have actually admitted you were wrong on something.

Maybe one day you will realize just how much of a jacka** you really are and will leave things that you don't know for those of us that do know.

As a matter of fact, the vast majority of cases the various agencies around my area make are filed on by the D.A. and prosecuted. It is even better in traffic court. On any given day, the ratio of convictions vs. dismissals runs about 80-90 percent or more for conviction. I'd say that pretty much puts the odds in favor of the "wankers" when it comes to the win column. I guess you just need to either get down to the court and watch it in action instead of relying on hearsay, or perhaps you need to pay higher and educate your cops more in your neck of the woods if they aren't making the grade (although I suspect they are).

According to police officers in Airway Heights, Wa., these bumpers are illegal, and if they saw this truck on the road again, it would get impounded.

This Blazer, my '84, is "Way too high to not have mudflaps". According the the law, about 70-80% of all vehicles on the road, including cars and trailers, and new vehicles off the lot, are in violation, because they don't have mudflaps or devices that cover the rear of the tires to the center of the rear axle.

I've found that alot of it depends on the officer him/her self. If they have strong personal feelings against lifted vehicles, then they become an easier target for being picky. Im not saying that about all cops, just some.

laws suck

in maine the law states that your front and rear frame rails have to be no more than a certain hight from the ground. <4500 GVWR=24" front, 26" rear
4501-7500 GVWR=27" front, 29" rear. to be within legal imits you really have to do some thinking. now i know i could just throw another frame ontop of a frame and still be the "stock" frame hight and have a lift w/o springs etc. but.... come on. thats a lot of work. why cant i have a legal rig thats lifted w/o a big headache?

WA laws are kinda hard core

im startin to rethink my wanting to get orders up there, if it's going to be that big of a PITA to drive my truck around, man thats crappy:(

Exactley, it shouldnt be that hard to drive are rigs thru town to get gas then go to the hills, not all of us have the money to afford a tow rig and trailer.

But it's not that hard to keep the rig legal within your state laws if you don't have that tow rig.

ya but how close is legal and trail capabale? im right at the limit with my 35's, when i go to 40'sor 42's ill be illegal. but my truck is as safe or safer than most cars on the road, Its the same arugment fo hot rods, if you were to take a NASCAR car and put lights and turn sig's on it, it would be safer than any car on the road, but not street legal:dunno: :screwy: sometimes the laws are unjust, and made as a blanket rule, also some LEO's will let some things slide and others will bust you for everything they can find and more, some people in a position of authority will let it get to thier heads, and others dont and know what it is like to be a "regular joe" this happens in the military all teh time, so i am speaking with a little of experance:xmas:

Been there, done that. Trail capable and trail only are two different things. I've been in and seen plenty a rig that was very trail capable, yet conformed with the state's vehicle laws for the most part where the owner wasn't getting hassled about anything. The pics I have seen of this guy's rig looks more like something that is trail only, so he should invest in a tow rig or spend a little more time doing the mods to it so he doesn't get hassled.

And if you are wondering, yes I would stop him for having no rear bumper and I'm pretty damn lenient when it comes to stuff like this.

no i wasent wondering, you seem to me to be the type of guy to do the right thing, in this instance im shure you would give a "come on now this is takin it a little far" I agree with you i think that rig is a little to trail, and you should know that when you take a rig out like that that is half tube, there is a good chance you would run inot some problems, when i put my 40's on i know ill be illegal, but ill suck it up if i get caught, cause i know better, dosent mean i wont compleatly disagree with the law:xmas:

It's a fine line one most walk and in some places, the cops will hassle ya and in others, they won't. In most places though, if the thing isn't that extreme, and you ain't acting the fool, the cops will leave ya alone.

Hmm, my truck isn't that extreme and i dont act like a fool, and i still get hasseled?
And YOU would stop me no rear bumper?? Oh please. Tankin me in the back with or without a bumper in your average car wont make a stinking difference. Flat out, they are going under me.

Flat out, they are going under me.
Which is generally why they have bumper laws to begin with. Keeps those pesky little ricers from ending up in your gas tank, axle, or in your back seat. Every area is different and every area cop/municipality/county/agency has their pet peeves. Sounds like you are the target du jour for whatever reason. I think Surpip has it right

i know ill be illegal, but ill suck it up if i get caught, cause i know better
If you already know something is illegal, and do it anyway, then whining is a waste of time. The motive of the cop in enforcing the law is irrelevant and it doesn't excuse the crime. Sometimes you get away with stuff (Lord knows I did when I was young) and sometimes you pay the piper.
