Re: READ: Important info about tying knots into a tow line.

I had a 7MB video of me tying these knots, but it got currupted. However here are four pictures:

To further add to the confusion, the first two are SHEET BENDS not bowlines. My appologies /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm not super enthused with the quality if the images. The movie was alot better too, because it showed the moition. A sheet bend takes under 5 seconds to tie if you know what your doing. The "new knot" takes a little bit longer, maybe 10-15. I don't own any clevis' that I can unscrew that fast, only ones with pins. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
If you need any help, hell I'll talk with you on the phone. This shouldn't have happened. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

First you say it was a freak accicdent... then you say it was a mistake. So, which is it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It was a MISTAKE that cost him his LIFE. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

And it is important to bring this up. So it is less likely to happen again. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Still, no pictures or anthing of proper and dirrerant options and ways to connect two straps.

You people need to simply realize that this was a freak accident, and leave it at that. Stop trying to analyze the recovery part of it, and just realize that due to a mistake a man made, he is now dead.

I feel bad for his family, but I don't feel that it is necessary that we go over this repeatedly.

Both of these knots reduce the strength of the line very little. (All knots weaken a line, not perminently per say, but just because of the direction changes) [ QUOTE ]
very little.?

Unfortunatly freak accidents are not freak accidents when there are several people siting simular near misses. The fact of the matter is if you put a heavy object between two strap if either straps fail you have a projectile. That projectile has a narrow path and it will be toward the oposite end of the strap it is attached. It headed straight back in the direction where a person is going to be...the drivers. Thats not a freak accident. Thats a preventable accident.

That sucks.

Acouple years ago I learned to stay extremely clear of stupid people with chains instead of straps. we had a truck stuck is our pit and a '80 ram charger pulling it out. I should have been in the front passenger seat but I was about 30 sec. late. They bumped the chain a couple time and finaly in snapped and went through the back window on the charger and hit the hood of the chevy. The passenger seat in the ram didn't latch, it flew forward so hard when he hit the brakes that it broke the windshield. Luckily, it wasn't my head.
I hope your friend finds his way to a better place. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

There has been a pay pall set up for donations. Even a little will help the widow out and let her take the time she needs to heal fom this.

For thos saying this is a freak accident go read pirate and jeepinian had a friend killed in the exact same manner. Its my hope to never hear about this type of accident again. Lets pay honor to David by not tmaking his death in vain and think before we hook up any sort of recovery gear.

Tim-

This is a prefect instance of where you just need to sit down and shut up. There is absolutely NO ISSUE in revisiting any flavor of saftey around the death of a fellow four wheeler. Do not do any further disrespect to this thread with your non-sense.

Thank you.
