Here's what I got. 60 front welded. 4.88 gears, and 39.5 TSL's. I need to make a decision between hydro assist w/ hi steer and cross over or full hydro. I don't plan on driving on the street much at all. But there will be the occasion. What would yoou do? Its more or less a budget build, but arn't they all:crazy:. Post up some ideas of what you think would work, maybe even some pics if you got them. Thanks guys

I don't know the law in your state, but around here, full hydro isn't street legal, and you would still have manual steering with hydro assist if your pump decides to go on strike. Do you plan to license the truck?

I am going full hydro and I will drive on the street. From my research if you do it correctly you will have no problem. This months issue of Four Wheeler has a write up on this subject.

For the $140.00 bucks, I'd put in a spool but welded is the same on the cheap as long as it lasts.

Full hydro isn't legal here either, never knew it was anywhere.

Either way you decide though, high steer is a must have IMO.
Can't imagine NOT getting the steering up and out of the way.

I'm running about the same set up that your asking about, D60, high steer w/ram assist but currently changing from limited to a spool. (limited didn't cut it)
Same tire size too, 39.5 TSL's fed by 5:13's.

The only issue I've ever had with the ram assist is not having the belt tight enough, otherwise it's got plenty of 'power' to turn the 39.5's whenever.

Yeah your not going to have a good day if you get pulled over by a cop with full hydro in Georgia either, I was just saying that I didn't plan on going on the road very much, if any. It looks more and more like I with at least start out with assist. Thanks for all the input

ive got cross-over, with hydro assist and d60 with detroit. been 6months and havent had any problems on the street. have you tried driving it with the welded yet? its going to be rough. id recommend definitely doing assist over full hydro

yeah it is. I dont have many current. Its been at my shop for a few months getting a TBI put in. The first is when I first got done (or so I thought), still had the 44 up front. Second was after the 60 install. Could you post some pics of how you did you hydro assist set up. Thanks

For everyone that says full hydro is not legal, I would love to see this in writing. I have searched this subject to death and the only thing I have ever found was a DOT statement that stated "Hydraulic steering is legal as long as it has return to center"

I just asked if full hydro was legal here in Pennsylvania. I work at a GM dealership and to my suprise the guys in the shop would pass it as long as it has some type of return to center. I was very suprised.
